Excerpt:

As calm a declaration of war as ever there was.

I know that voice. I’ve dreamt of that voice. Dreamt of it whispering the most carnal, arousing things to me in his dry, Midwestern baritone.

It’s because of the owner of this voice that I’m now in the predicament I’m in.

Yearning for one night with a surrogate for my very Special Agent, I’m now cornered by the actual, very genuine Thomas Dalton.

I consider the odds of a successful escape. I’m sitting, he’s standing. He’s taller, by an inch or two, but I have more muscle. I could probably take him down and get out the door, but if he has backup outside, I’m dead.

Which would be a rather disappointing end to this evening.

Remaining seated seems my best option. Maybe it’s a subconscious death wish, but I’ve been lucky before letting things play out and seizing the unexpected opportunity. I’m also in no hurry to hurt him.

Then again, I never like hurting him. The few times I’ve allowed us a protracted brawl, because, honestly, that’s a very stupid move—always go for the quick takedown or the clean getaway—I barely defended myself. Does he realize the physical risks I’ve taken just to spend a few minutes in his company?

I hope not.

IT WAS ALWAYS YOU by Tianna Xander

IT WAS ALWAYS YOU by Tianna Xander

But, evidently, his perfect mate is only to be found in his nocturnal dreams and the closest he’ll ever get to her is with the help of Madame Eve’s 1Night Stand service. And even then, it’s only one night with a fantasy lookalike.

Will that be enough time for Candy and Jared to realize dreams truly can come true?

Entering the bedroom, he frowned. It’s too quiet. Had she left?

“Candy?” he whispered. If she expected him, the movie star, she would recognize his voice. He had to remember to speak with a Midwestern accent at a low level and not have his brogue give him away. Not yet, anyway. He said her name softly again.

No answer.

“Candy, are you there?” he asked a bit louder. Had his accent bled through? It didn’t matter. His instructions had probably scared her, and she’d left. Shit!

“Huh, wha…?” The sleep-filled voice came from the bed. “Who’s there?”

“It’s just me, darlin’. Your date for the evening.”

“Why are you whispering?” The sheets rustled. She’d turned off the lights as he’d instructed in his letter. With the curtains drawn, the glow from the city below couldn’t penetrate the darkness. That hadn’t been part of his conditions. Had she’d closed them to even the playing field so he couldn’t see her either?

Standing in the doorway, he breathed in her perfume. The scent of peaches wafted up from the bed and gave him a hard-on from hell. The sweet scent filled his lungs. He closed his eyes and inhaled deeply, the lingering scent bringing up sweet memories of his Candy. Still, it didn’t matter. The only thing he gave a damn about—they get along with each other and have the fantasy they wanted.

“Have you changed your mind?” He hoped not, and pictured the lingerie he’d packed in the case for her. Had she put it on, or was she wearing something of her own?

“No, I haven’t changed my mind. I’m wearing the flimsy nightgown you sent for me, aren’t I?” she asked, dryly.

“I need to ask you something first.”

His brow furrowed, but he shrugged. “Okay.”

“Does Madame Eve know the location of your secret place?” Out there in the dark, with the sprinkle of stars to light the black velvet night, the reality of proceeding blindfolded into the desert with a stranger, no matter how attractive, seemed dangerous. If the answer was no, she would ask him to turn the car around and hope she wasn’t already too late.

“Yes,” he said, in a low voice. “She insisted.” When she still clutched his arm, he smiled. “I understand caution, let me show you something.” Lukas reached over her to the center console. So close, his warmth and the clean scent of soap went to her head. Hang on, Jane. Even if he is the cutest guy you’ve ever met, and smells so good.

He retrieved his cell phone and clicked to a text message. “Look at this.”

I have confirmed the location of your date and we can schedule your evening. I hope you understand the safety of my clients is paramount, yours as well as Ms. Summers. Thank you for your cooperation. M.E.

Reassured, Jane faced away from him. “Do it, then.” She closed her eyes and tried not to flinch as the soft cloth covered her face. It tightened and then his hands dropped to her shoulders.

“Okay?” His fingers rested on her collarbones, inches from her breasts. Her eyes strained, but the several folds prevented the least bit of starlight from entering.

“I can’t see a thing.” But she could still feel his touch moving down her arms, past her short sleeves, and onto bare skin. The desert wind soughed; her heart thumped in her ears. Hyperaware of the man behind her, she waited to see what he would do next.

He walked up behind her and hesitated a moment before resting his hands on her shoulders. When she didn’t try to shrug him off or move away, he knew she felt the same attraction he did. Was he moving too fast? Hell, sex was the main item on the night’s agenda, anyway. They both knew it. If she shut him down he’d be no worse off than before.

But she didn’t. When he brushed aside her thick mane of hair and skimmed his lips over the soft skin of her neck, a shiver ran through her. A silent acceptance of his touch. God, she smelled so good, like flowers and the ocean and sin. He licked her skin lightly then nibbled on the lobe of one ear.

She pressed back against him and he turned her to face him, studying her for a moment then brushed his mouth over hers. Her lips were lush and full and tempting, with the feel of soft velvet. Tracing the seam of them with the tip of his tongue, he urged her to open for him and thrust inside her.

Jesus!

Her mouth was hot and liquid, her tongue dancing like a live wire. He moved his hands up and down her back, feeling the heat of her through the fabric of the dress. She gripped his biceps with her fingers and when she pressed her lower body against his, every nerve in his body fired. He wanted to go slow, take it easy. Give her the chance to get used to him. They’d barely gotten to know each other. But his body and brain were engaged in a fierce battle for control.

Bethany didn’t want to imagine what she looked like right at that second. She didn’t like flying and she particularly didn’t like doing it in a bush plane, even a private one with a very nice pilot. She smoothed down her hair and tried to smile at the receptionist who signed her in. To her left, she saw a man sporting a beard talking on the phone in a private office. She wondered if that was Nick Castillo, who ran the Castillo Lodge in Castle, Alaska.

Madame Eve had been downright mysterious when she’d e-mailed, telling her to get some warm clothes together and something nice to wear to a gala because she had to leave immediately for the Castillo Lodge. She didn’t have any other plans, having quit her job, so it wasn’t a problem. But still. It had been a little odd. Did Madame Eve handle all of her client’s dates that abruptly?

“You’re all set, Ms. Johnson.” The receptionist smiled at her and held out a key. “Down the hall is the elevator. Take it to the second floor. Mr. Denarius is already here.

“He is?” She tried to swallow away the nervous lump in her throat.

“Yes, ma’am. He arrived quite early this morning.”

“I see.” She hoped the receptionist didn’t notice her sweaty hands as she took the key. She had been counting on being there first. It would have given her some time to relax, take a bath, and make herself look somewhat presentable before she had to face her date.

As if in a daze, She walked toward the elevator. What had her so spooked? This was exactly what she wanted. One night with a stranger who could fulfill all of her yearnings. She’d get it out of her system and then she’d go on to Italy the confident, capable woman she knew she could be.

Lucian Denarius constituted a means to an end. Maybe he’d be a nice guy who she could see again someday if the situation presented itself. She shivered at the name. Madame Eve hadn’t sent his picture in the e-mail, but the name alone inspired all sorts of ridiculous fantasies for her. He sounded mysterious.

NIGHT MISSION by Desiree Holt

NIGHT MISSION by Desiree Holt

A 1 Night Stand Story

Navy SEAL Gabriel Walker didn't think he was asking too much, just a hot woman with some brains who made his down time between missions pleasant. And maybe a little bit more.

Forty-something Maggie Fitzpatrick wanted a younger man with a sex drive to match her own and even smarts to hold a conversation. And maybe a little bit more.

When Madame Evangeline paired them for the one night stand, neither of them expected the explosive chemistry, the very hot sex...and a little bit more.

The first thing he noticed was the living room of the suite, decorated like a room from the mid-1800s, only with modern upgrades. The second thing–which should have been the first–nearly made his heart stop. A nearly-naked woman lounged on the couch, wearing the shortest, sheerest…whatever the hell it was called, that he’d ever seen. He hoped his jaw didn’t become unhinged when it hit the floor, or that she expected a lot of conversation right off the bat.

No question about it. I am definitely locked and loaded.

“Hi!” She flashed him an incendiary smile, her low, seductive voice hinting at her Texas heritage. “Come on in. I’ve been waiting for you.”

He lifted an eyebrow. “Have you, now. All your life?”

“I don’t know. You tell me.” She laughed softly.

She rose languidly from the couch and the sunlight pouring in through the sheer curtains left nothing beneath her shortie to anyone’s imagination. If he’d ordered a dream woman, this would be her.

Oh, wait. I did. And here she is.

Gabe dropped his duffel by the door and strode over to where she stood on ridiculously high slip-on stiletto heels.

“Well. Let’s finds out.”

He grinned down at her, placed his hands on her shoulders and bent his head. The moment his mouth touched hers, a jolt of electricity sizzled through him. Her mouth tasted every bit as good as it looked, and when his tongue slid inside, she tasted better than finely aged bourbon. She molded herself to him, her full breasts pressing against the hard wall of his chest, her slender fingers rubbing up and down his arms. He let his tongue wander everywhere inside her mouth, licking the slick, inner surfaces, drinking from her as if he’d never be able to get enough. When she glided her own tongue over his, he tightened his grip on her and sucked her deep inside his mouth.

“Well,” she gasped when he lifted his head, the pulse at her throat hammering wildly. “Hello to you, too.”

His gaze raked over her, absorbing every line and curve, every dip and swell.

“I hope you don’t think that thing covers you very much.”

She smiled, a slow curve of her lips. “It’s not supposed to.” Her low, full-throated voice caressed his skin. She let her eyes travel over him, from his shoulders down and back up again. “But, I think you have too many clothes on for this party.”

Gabe’s groin tightened. A woman who didn’t play coy and still classy about it. Could his luck possibly get any better?

~Excerpt~

He ran a hand through his brown hair as he considered Eve’s last text. He knew the woman made a very nice living setting people up. People signed up online using some kind of questionnaire. So why Eve wasted her time with him when he so clearly wanted to be left alone went beyond his understanding.

The girl on the stool—Kaylee—fiddled with the straw in her multi-colored drink. Could he leave her there and not tell her that no one would show up? He sighed. Of course he couldn’t. He might have been changed, against his will, to a werewolf who shifted into a canine every time a full moon showed up, but he hadn’t lost all the manners his mother had once instilled in him.

As he walked slowly toward the woman, he took a deep breath. Outside of his cabin in the woods, he very rarely allowed himself to use his wolf senses. Tempting fate courted danger, especially since for years after his initial bad-luck-bite he’d occasionally lose control of himself and end up growling or pawing at some unsuspecting stranger.

These days he handled the urges but still….

On some primal level, Kaylee Post called to him. He had to give Eve credit for getting the physical attraction part down. He’d liked blondes before he’d been bit. Especially ones who had sad violet eyes and pouty, kissable lips. Wow. Yeah.

As he leaned on the bar, he tried to smile in a way that wouldn’t alarm her. Kaylee caught her breath as he approached. Regular humans might not hear the small intake he’d noticed, but increased sensitivity to sound came with the wolf-bite.

“Hi.”

A slight red hue covered her cheekbones and stained her pale skin. What did that mean? Sickness? Then it struck him and he felt like an idiot. She blushed. He’d come over and his presence had made her blush. To his recollection, that had never happened before. Women didn’t react that strongly when they first met him.

“Hello.” Her voice sounded lower than he’d expected. Not too deep, but sexy and sultry in a way he knew would stick with him later.

“My name is Joseph Penn. I think we have something in common.”

Her violet eyes flared to life with an unknown emotion and it relieved him to see she didn’t seem sad when she spoke to him. “What would that be, Joseph? Or do people call you Joe?”

He shrugged. “Either, or.”

“Alright, Joe. What do we have in common?”

Now his cheeks burned. Maybe because her violet eyes seemed to pierce right into his soul, or perhaps it had been a really long time since he’d had sex, but Kaylee Post turned him on. In a major way.

“Well, um…” Okay, get the stammering under control. “We’ve both been stood up by my sister.”
