Of Wolf's Blood Excerpt

Suddenly, the atmosphere of the bar changed, and an invisible force caressed her cheek, sending bolts of pleasure riveting down her spine and to her core. Moisture clung between her thighs, and her nipples tightened against the leather bustier.

Two large vampires, one redheaded and the other white-haired, made their way over to the bar. The sea of writhing bodies seemingly parted just for them. The aura of power they exuded hung heavy in the air, causing the hair on Simone’s neck to stand on end. As they approached, their eyes held hers in rapt attention. Both smiled at her, flashing their fangs.

Immediately she was intrigued and couldn’t explain the sudden attraction to them both. “Who are they?” she whispered to Raoul.

“Lucius, the redhead, is brother to coven leader, Lazius, and first in command. The white-haired dude is second in command,” Raoul said with haste as he prepared their drinks. “His name is Sax, and he loves Bloody Orgasms. Don’t disappoint. They’ve known each other for over six hundred years.”

“Ah, this little chocolate beauty could never disappoint,” Sax said, as he sat on a barstool. “Pay him no mind, beautiful,” he rasped. “We won’t bite—much,” he said with a grin as he extended his hand. “You are . . . ?”

“I’m Simone,” she said in a firm voice, despite her body’s sudden disobedience. What the hell happened that caused her libido and temperature to go crazy?

Lucius extended his hand. When she shook it, he rose, planting a smoldering kiss on the back of hers, sending tiny electric currents over her mocha skin. He sat down and smiled. “You’re exquisite,” he said in a gruff voice. “Why the hell are you working in here? Where is your male?”

Simone’s pulse quickened. Did the vampires know her true nature? Sweat beaded her brow as her mind urgently sought an answer.

“My male?”

Sax laughed. “Yes, many human women have male vampire mates. Some have female vampire mates, if that is their choice.” He glared at her with intense, glowing blue orbs. “You’re too gorgeous to be without a male,” he breathed huskily. “Or males.” He added with a smile.

After breathing a sigh of relief, she answered quickly. “Oh, no, I . . . don’t have a male,” she confessed with embarrassment. Her heart raced as a sudden ache erupted deep inside her. Her alter ego eagerly scratched the surface of her human façade. The female needed to be released to mate. She wanted both like nobody’s business, and as far as she could tell, they wanted her, too.

Lucius leaned his elbows against the black marble bar, his chin pressing against the backs of his hands. “Aren’t you due for a break?” He cast her a look that sliced through her being like a knife cutting butter.

Raoul chimed in. “She is, but since the stroke of midnight, the crowd has peaked.”

Sax turned slightly to shoot the bartender a disapproving glare. “Point being?”

Raoul fixed his lips to speak, but Lucius interrupted.

“Choose your words wisely, Raoul, or tonight shall be your last.”

So, this is what the attitude of a male warrior vampire was like. She shuddered. Warriors were known for their fierceness. Perhaps they would make formidable allies against her clan. Just as quickly as the thought entered her mind, she dismissed it. Who was she fooling? If the vampires discovered her true nature, there was no doubt in her mind they’d unleash a fate worse than death upon her.

“So,” Lucius pressed on with a quick nod of his head. “Come, sit with us. We’ll buy you a few rounds of whatever it is you drink.” Something gnawed at her soul. The look in his eyes—in both vampires’ eyes—consumed her. The ruby vibrated against her skin. They sure as hell weren’t using their powers on her. She was untouchable to vampires and to her clan.

She quickly glanced at Raoul, who had all but given up hope. As a blur, he quickly waited on patrons filling the overly packed bar.

The vampires treated her like no male had ever treated her before. They were soft-spoken, but she knew if given reason, they’d chastise her. Right now, she longed to know what it would be like sandwiched between both creatures.

A Broken Bond Excerpt

Rylie shifted in the passenger seat of the lime green Volkswagen Beetle as Wyoming mountain passed by in all its beauty. It was the hundredth time she’d fidgeted on the drive down Beartooth Highway. The night was dark as thick storm clouds covered the sky while rain beat against the windshield and the wipers worked madly to keep up.

She took a quick glance toward Chloe and noticed the firmness in her best friend’s posture hadn’t changed. Her hands where stuck at ten and two, her knuckles white from the death grip on the steering wheel. Rylie sighed, then glanced back out to the wilderness.

A short time later, they crossed over the state line into Montana. Chloe let out a loud breath and sank back in her seat in relief. “Guess Layne was none the wiser.” Her tone was relieved.

Rylie nodded as she let out a deep breath of her own. “Apparently not.” If Layne had known what she was attempting, she wouldn’t have made it out of Wyoming. Her death would have come first. Harsh, but that was a pack rule. She was bound to him, his mate for all eternity, and since she was immortal, that meant forever.

Layne would have killed her for her betrayal―no one would have stopped it. Her father, Edwin, once Alpha to the Wyoming pack, had been succeeded by Layne only days before. Layne had unofficial business that brought him into Cody, and even Rylie couldn’t deny they were destined to be bound.

The problem? Layne was scum-bag central. Greedy and cold-hearted was only the tip of the iceberg. He also lacked character. Sexy, of course, as were all werewolves, but his strong, sculpted body and tall, dark, and handsome features were of no interest to Rylie. She may only be twenty-four, but she had enough sense to not fall for a man on looks alone.

In a matter of twenty-four hours, Layne had issued a challenge to claim the status of Alpha in the Wyoming pack, claimed Rylie as his mate, and killed her parents. Her father fought with valiance, but in the end, it hadn’t been enough. Her mother, loyal to her mate right to the very end, refused to submit to the new Alpha. The end result—she died right along with him. In thirty minutes, her entire family had dwindled down to nothing.

Now, Rylie focused on her survival. Besides, she wasn’t entirely alone. Chloe, her best friend, was her anchor. Born a day apart, destined sisters born from different mothers, they always joked. Friendships like the one with Chloe weren’t formed through time. It was a bond that lay soul deep, and one that Rylie was going to miss tremendously.

Chloe may only be five-five with auburn hair that coiled between her shoulder blades and a pretty face with sandy-colored eyes, but she was as tough as any man. Chloe’s courage and in-your-face attitude was something Rylie envied. She had yet to find the balls that Chloe seemed to be naturally born with.

“We’re only ten minutes from Cooke City,” Chloe said, drawing Rylie away from her thoughts. “Are you really sure you want to do this? You’ll be on the run forever.”

“What other choice to do I have?” Rylie sighed. “I can’t stay with Layne―he’s horrible.”

“That fucker,” Chloe growled. “Treating you like he has. You’d think when he found his mate, he would treat her like a queen. Not like a door mat.”

Rylie wasn’t going to argue that point. Layne had been nothing but wretched to her. He’d barely spoken a word to her since their bonding ceremony, and even that Rylie wished she could erase from her mind.

Virgins should be handled with care―with consideration. Something Layne had obviously never been taught. Her first sexual experience held no touching except when he put lubrication on her opening and then shoved his dick in. If she never had sex again, she’d be perfectly fine with that.

“All right,” Rylie finally said, willing herself to leave the past behind her. “Go through it again with me?”

“Again?” Chloe groaned.

“Yes, again. I want to make sure you have your story straight. I don’t want this coming back on you.”

“Fine―once more, then that is it,” Chloe said with a firm look. “You called me up and told me you wanted to go for a drive into Cooke City.”

“Yes...and?”

“We went into a little store, I was looking at a book, then I turned around and you were gone.”

“Right! And what are you going to do when you drop me off?”

Chloe rolled her eyes, exasperated. “Call Layne and report you missing.”

“Exactly,” Rylie responded, ignoring the look. “Just stick to that story and you’ll be fine.”

“I have no idea why you are worrying about me. You’re the one who could end up six feet under.”

Wasn’t that the truth? “He won’t find me.” Rylie hoped, begged, prayed. “I’ll just keep running until he gets tired.”

Chloe’s expression shifted to knowing. “Let’s just hope he gets tired of hunting soon.”

A wave of fear mingled with annoyance as it washed through her. All of this was true. What if he never grew tired? Layne seemed the type of man who would chase her till the end of the earth. Not for romantic reasons, only because she belonged to him. He owned her, and what he owned, he kept.

Cooke City’s downtown lit the sky minutes before they entered the town. Wild-Wild West still played a serious role here. If a cowboy came out with the whole chaps and spurs get up, Rylie wouldn’t have been surprised. Cody, her home town, wasn’t a busy city compared to some, but it was definitely bigger than this hick town. A couple of gas stations sat on either side of the road, small stores―hardware, a local store, used book store, couple knickknack junky places and a few clothing shops―that was about it.

Chloe pulled the car off the road, put it in the park, then met Rylie’s gaze. “This is it then, I guess.”

“Yup, guess so,” Rylie replied, a lump forming in her throat. As much as leaving Chloe behind was gut wrenching, she was happy within the pack. Her mate, Devan, was a man to drool over and who loved her silly. Her place was with him.

Chloe breathed in deeply, then blew it out as she hugged Rylie tightly. “Be safe, okay?”

“I’ll sure try.” Rylie laughed, a nervous sound that said just how she felt.

Chloe backed away, her eyes filled with tears. “If you get in any trouble, call me. Devan said he’ll come and help you if you need it.”

Rylie kissed Chloe’s cheek. “Tell Devan I said thank you, but I’m just going to get as far away as I can. Layne will get bored. He will move on. I am sure of it.”

“Of course he will,” Chloe responded. “Give it a week and he’ll forget all about you.”

If Rylie hadn’t known her so well, she would have believed her. But as it was, she knew Chloe had just lied. “I’ll miss you,” she managed, her throat tight.

“Me too,” Chloe squeaked.

Rylie grabbed the door handle, opened it, then gave a push against the door with her arm. “So, I’m going.”

Chloe’s tears spilled over. “Yes, you’re going.”

“Right now,” Rylie said. Her own tears formed.

Chloe gave a firm nod. “Go.”

Rylie willed herself out of the car, forced her body to move, and soon, she was standing outside of the Bug with her hand on the door. With a firm shove, she slammed it closed. Tears overtook her vision―the world went blurry. Chloe’s cries echoed through the dark sky.

A cold rain came around Rylie. She raised her head to the sky and let the sensation ease her. She was free from Layne, from a lifetime of mistreatment, from years of unhappiness.

The sound of a phone beeping snapped Rylie back to focus. It was time. She needed to run. With a deep sniff, the scent of wolf surrounded her. Her heels dug into the ground, then she pushed off and ran as fast as she could.

A muscle car rested outside the local store, the headlights on, and a figure sat in the front seat. Whoever sat in that car was a male and he smelled rouge. A lifeline had just been thrown her way at the opportune moment. A rogue wolf wouldn’t be opposed to helping her. He wouldn’t know who she was or care what she was doing―he wasn’t bound by loyalty.

The rain splashed up as her feet banged against the ground. She never stopped running. This was a good way out. She continued to run toward the car, her need to get out of the line of sight growing more urgent.. The moment she met the passenger door, she slammed into the side, grabbed the handle and flew in, shutting the door behind her. She met the driver’s bewildered gaze. “Go―please, just drive.”

Excerpt:

Clutching the bed furs, Rebecca shivered as she returned to the warmth of the bed. The cold air hardened her chocolate nipples, causing the silk to feel harsh against them. Candles adorned the room, and a slight breeze caused the flames to sway in a smooth fluid motion, in such a strange hypnotizing way. It was no secret, once again she'd been thrust into an alternate reality.

A growl made the hair on the back of her neck stand on end. Chills skittered down her spine, causing goose bumps to erupt over her flesh. The bed sat adjacent to the entrance of the room, and within the door- frame she caught a glimpse of Niko's large silhouette. From what she could see, his eyes appeared to be silver, or perhaps the candlelight played tricks upon her eyes.

Seeking more warmth, Rebecca tucked the furs closer to her body. Her breath escaped her as the wolf man moved closer into view, leaning against the stone wall. Silver eyes pierced her soul, and her pussy clenched in anticipation. Hot cream flooded her silk panties when Niko finally came into full view, snatching her breath away like a thief in the night.

She smiled. "I've missed you. Her pulsed quickened, and her clit throbbed. She ached with want at the thought of his hardened body slipping and sliding against hers.

"And I've missed you, Ljubavnica (lee oo bav neet sa)."

Rebecca swallowed hard as the large, muscular man, who stood at six-foot-three appeared to float into the room. Every time Rebecca saw him, many memories invade her psyche, causing her to remember their past lives together. Tonight, he wore a blood red wool shirt, and black cotton knickers, that were pretty damned form-fitting against his chiseled body.

His features appear to be carved from stone and adorned with tell-tale signs of his age, sending her blood pressure through the roof. To Rebecca, he looked to be in his early to mid forties, but she knew Niko was centuries old. Gray streaks were prominent throughout his black, shoulder length hair. Rebecca shuddered, not from the cold, but from eyes that were now black as obsidian. She released a breath and shuddered in anticipation of what was to come. Those eyes possessed ancient unspoken secrets, and promised hours of forbidden carnal pleasures.

“Is there anything else?” Her hands turned to butter, and she gripped the cup in her hands tighter. She didn’t dare raise it to her lips otherwise Jax would know just how nervous she felt.

“Not about Ashley.”

Appearing to be cool, calm and collected, he leaned against the high back of the barstool, but at the slightest movement, Ivory knew the man would coil into action. “I want to know more about you.”

“Me?” Ivory’s droll tone earned her a disapproving bearing of his teeth.

“I think that’s what I just said.”

She closed her eyes and tried to shut out the sound of the loud jukebox and raucous patrons. She focused on staying calm because if she didn’t, she might bolt for the safety of her Jeep. She wasn’t quite sure if she needed to be safe from the patrons at the bar or from Jax and his pheromones.

He studied her, his thick fringe of eyelashes lowered slightly, and Ivory felt a curious tingling ascend her spine. “Are you always rude?” she asked.

Jax’s lips pulled into a smirk. He tapped his finger against the bar in time with the hard rock. “I don’t see many people, babe, except through the end of a scope.”

A chill crashed over Ivory. A scope, as in sniper’s rifle? She clenched her drink harder. More than the little bit of knowledge he’d given her, the alpha male sitting next to her made her body react in a way she hadn’t let herself feel in a long time. Not since college. She felt heat coat her stomach, flames lick the center of her core in time with the rips of a guitar. She sensed his need and her body responded. The last time she’d given herself to a man, he’d broken her heart.

He leaned in, the heat of his skin so close her flesh grew warm. She drew in the scent of his cologne, something airy, like cool water. How could a man be so hot and cold at the same time? She bit down on her lip.

His smirk continued to taunt her. “Don’t worry, Miss Black. I don’t bite” He took a sip of his drink then pushed the glass away. “Unless you ask me to.”

He rose to his full height, tossing down a few bills. “Trixie, for both our drinks, and you,” he called out, his deep voice loud enough for the woman heard him from the other end of the bar.

Ivory felt too hot as he stood, gripped her elbow, and steered her toward the door. The light pressure of his fingertips against her elbow burned all the way to her core. She clenched her thigh muscles against the growing need. She never had a one night stand in her life but Jax could make her want it. Oh, God, he could make her want to do things she had never wanted to do before and that was the problem.

Outside the bar, the sudden quiet made her ears ring. Instead of leading her toward her Jeep, he pushed her deeper into the shadows. Ivory dug her feet in, but he tossed a look over his shoulder. He propelled her toward the wharf, the docks.

The smell of dead fish didn’t bother her, but the man taking her away from the safety of light and her car did. She felt around for her weapon again. “Where are you taking me?”

“I need some air.”

Ivory yanked on her elbow and pulled her arms out of reach. He stopped half-way down the dock, turned to face her. Ivory tilted her head back, stared up into those blazing eyes and nearly melted. Had a man ever wanted her the way she sensed he did? The way he looked made her toes curl, her womb throb.

How could he make her feel this way with just a look? On principle, she didn’t even like the man. She had no respect for anyone who could turn a back on a child. On top of that, he killed people. He killed people. Ivory took a step back.

“Going to run?”

Ivory felt for her 1911 again, confidence in the cold piece of steel strapped to her body making it easier to breathe. Her lungs seemed to work again. “I don’t run, Captain.”

“Jax.”

Ivory notched her chin up at him, clamped her lips shut. He took a step forward, and they danced that way. She retreated. He advanced. She felt the rough wood of a fishing shack at her back and glanced up. No lights. No one around. The bar music vibrated on the wind. If she screamed, no one would hear her. But oh, man, she really did not want to.

Even though she’d trained in all forms of martial arts over the years, thanks to her absentee father’s monthly stipend, taking down the six-four giant with a body of iron would be hard for her. If he pinned her, would she even be able to get to her gun? Would she even want to? Her thoughts chased themselves around and around until he placed two massive palms on either side of her body, his cool breath smelling slightly like liquor.

Despite her growing apprehension, her body continued to groan in need. She hadn’t been with a lover since Nathan. She needed release, and Jax seemed to want to give it to her. Her nana’s voice echoed through her mind. Don’t give it all away on the first date, Cha-cha.

Ivory’s breath came rapidly. He leaned in close, and his breath fanned her ear, which sent signals of pleasure racing to her brain. She jerked at the torture of him so close, the heat invading her clothes despite the cool night.

“What do you want from me?”

Jax nipped at her lobe. “I think you know want what I want.”

“Doesn’t mean I’m going to give it to you,” Ivory shot back.

Jax lowered a hand to her waist and pulled her against the hard wall of his body. A very specific bulge burrowed against her stomach. Her knees turned to jellyfish. His wide palm splayed against her back, then slid under her jacket to the skin beneath. The heat seared her flesh, and to her horror, she whimpered.

“I’m not going to take you,” he murmured.

He licked the bundle of nerves just behind her earlobe, and Ivory sank her nails into his shirt, astonished to feel the fire and granite of his chest, the ridges and valleys of his pectoral muscles. It had been way too long without sex, and now she found herself ready to give herself over to a stranger, on the docks no less.

“At least, not tonight,” he rumbled seconds before he licked a scorching path up her neck, pressed her harder against him.

Ivory wrapped her arms around his back, tired of the game he taunted her with. “I don’t even know you,” she panted.

“Baby, you’re going to know me, real well. That’s a promise.”
