IT WAS ALWAYS YOU by Tianna Xander

IT WAS ALWAYS YOU by Tianna Xander

Candy only asked for a night. Will she get more than she expected?

After dreaming of him for months, Candy can’t believe the 1Night Stand dating service has found a man fitting the description of her ideal lover. After all, her dream man is no other than A-list actor, Jared Harwell, and since she’ll never have him, she’ll settle for a close match.

Shapeshifter Jared Harwell is ready to call it quits—his acting career and Hollywood lifestyle—if he can find the mate he’s searching for. But, evidently, his perfect mate is only to be found in his nocturnal dreams and the closest he’ll ever get to her is with the help of Madame Eve’s 1Night Stand service. And even then, it’s only one night with a fantasy lookalike.

Will that be enough time for Candy and Jared to realize dreams truly can come true?

Entering the bedroom, he frowned. It’s too quiet. Had she left?

“Candy?” he whispered. If she expected him, the movie star, she would recognize his voice. He had to remember to speak with a Midwestern accent at a low level and not have his brogue give him away. Not yet, anyway. He said her name softly again.

No answer.

“Candy, are you there?” he asked a bit louder. Had his accent bled through? It didn’t matter. His instructions had probably scared her, and she’d left. Shit!

“Huh, wha…?” The sleep-filled voice came from the bed. “Who’s there?”

“It’s just me, darlin’. Your date for the evening.”

“Why are you whispering?” The sheets rustled. She’d turned off the lights as he’d instructed in his letter. With the curtains drawn, the glow from the city below couldn’t penetrate the darkness. That hadn’t been part of his conditions. Had she’d closed them to even the playing field so he couldn’t see her either?

Standing in the doorway, he breathed in her perfume. The scent of peaches wafted up from the bed and gave him a hard-on from hell. The sweet scent filled his lungs. He closed his eyes and inhaled deeply, the lingering scent bringing up sweet memories of his Candy. Still, it didn’t matter. The only thing he gave a damn about—they get along with each other and have the fantasy they wanted.

“Have you changed your mind?” He hoped not, and pictured the lingerie he’d packed in the case for her. Had she put it on, or was she wearing something of her own?

“No, I haven’t changed my mind. I’m wearing the flimsy nightgown you sent for me, aren’t I?” she asked, dryly.

“I’m not sure we should ignore Tony’s warning.” Tansy took a sip of her coffee and wrinkled her nose before dumping a generous amount of creamer into the cup. “He always makes it too strong.”

Of course, the fact that it could be old apparently never crossed her sister’s mind. “What warning? Didn’t he say we could go out as long as we had an escort?” Iris lifted her drink, guzzled the last of her coffee, stood, and carried her cup to the sink. After rinsing it out, she placed the cup in the dishwasher, turned and faced her sister. “We have two perfectly good male dragons who can go to the mall with us, Tanz. I’m going stir crazy here.”

Tansy shook her head. “I should have known you’d be trouble when you begged to stay with us. Why didn’t you want to go to Europe with the others?” She, too, guzzled the rest of her coffee before carrying her cup to the sink.

Iris found out long ago that sometimes gulping down Tony’s attempts at making coffee was the only way to get her caffeine fix. “Because I have a feeling that my man is here in the states. Fat lot of good that does me,” she groused.

How could she meet the guy if she never got out of the house? Tansy had hated their other sister April’s attempts at matchmaking so much, she refused to introduce any of her sisters to her husband’s friends more than once a month. After suffering through months of April’s weekly matchmaking parties, Tansy’s penchant for staying home and watching TV was getting on Iris’s nerves.

Certain she’d go mad if she didn’t get out of there, and soon, Iris paced the length of the counter. She couldn’t take another minute cooped up in this-this frigging mansion with her love-struck sister. “You’re right. I shouldn’t have begged to stay here. If anything, I should have begged to go to Europe, with the rest of them, instead of insisting I stay here with you and Mister Boring.” She didn’t dare call her sister Mrs. Boring. That was a good way to get punched. They might be adults, but they would always be sisters.

Crossing her arms, she leaned back against the counter and glared at her sister. Tansy could talk that boring husband of hers into just about anything. Why wouldn’t she talk him into getting out of the house once in a while?

“Tansy, you’re mated now. You have come into your powers. You alone could protect us, for crying out loud.” Iris wasn’t positive of that, but she was desperate.

Unlike Iris, Tansy had complete control over her magic. Once mated, the sisters stopped having issues with their powers. Instead of zapping up frogs, and toadstools, a mated witch conjured whatever it was she wanted. All of her married sisters had oodles of control over their magic. Iris couldn’t conjure up a glass of water.

“I’m going to go nuts here. You know that, don’t you?” She sighed deeply, knowing her dramatics would have no effect on her sister. They never had.

“Oh, stop being so melodramatic.” Tansy waved her hand in a dismissive arc. “Soon, everyone will return from Europe and things will be back to normal before you know it.”

“Okay, damn it. Who are you, and what have you done with my sister?” Iris glared at Tansy. “You used to be the adventurous one. Don’t I remember you escaping Drake’s house and running off with Rose?”

Not only did she escape but she and Rose climbed a tree, jumped over to a stone wall and then onto the ground where they hurried into a waiting taxi driven by a madman.

“Yeah. That was before I fell in love.” Tansy batted her eyes, wearing a dreamy expression.

The wench actually batted her eyes.

“What’s love got to do with it?” Iris pushed away from the counter, stalked back to the table and plopped back into her seat. She had to do something before she punched Tansy so hard she wouldn’t be able to open her eyes, let alone bat her lashes at her.

“More than you know.” Tansy’s phone rang. Reaching out, she picked it up, touched the screen and held it to her ear. “What did you need, sweetheart?”

“Oh, God.” Iris leaned back in her seat with a glower. “Speak of the effing devil.”

Tansy only used that tone of voice with one person—her infernal dragon.

“Of course we can, but we’ll need some time. Iris was just saying she’d like to get out and into the fresh air for a while,” Tansy said into her phone. “It’ll take us a few minutes to change, but we should be there within the hour.”

Be where? Iris perked up. She didn’t really care where as long as wherever it was got her out of this blasted house before she lost her mind.

“I love you, too, darling,” Tansy whispered into the phone. She giggled at something he said. “See you soon.”

Tansy set her phone on the table and met Iris’s gaze. “Tony wants us to meet him at O’Leary’s on Fifth Street, for dinner. His business meeting ran a little late and he wants to celebrate the acquisition of a new company.”

“Whatever.” Iris pushed away from the table and stood. “I don’t care what his reasons are. I just want to get out of this house. Even if it’s only for a few hours.” She almost danced toward the stairs. “I’ll just go take a quick shower and change into something nice.”

After all, a girl never knew when she might meet the man—or the dragon—of her dreams.

THE RED DRAGON by Tianna Xander

THE RED DRAGON by Tianna Xander

Dragon Bound # 8

What’s an older woman do when a handsome dragon decides she’s his? She goes with it.

Emily is seventy-six years old. It's a good thing she looks and feels as though she's only sixty. Otherwise, she might have had a stroke when she visits the site of her love’s resting place. She thinks he's dead. She definitely doesn’t expect him to rise from the ground in dragon form and carry her off as though she's some sacrificial virgin.

Whatever she imagined she would find in Scotland, it certainly wasn’t an adventure with a handsome dragon who had chosen to age with her, a well-kept secret revealed, and a new life as an ancient dragon’s most treasured possession.

Emily slid from the back of the limousine and stretched. Her old bones didn’t take long trips well anymore. This trip was the longest she’d been on in years. Her doctor would probably have a cow if he found out she went to Europe. At least she wasn’t alone. Her friend, Summer, and her significant other accompanied her, along with two of Summer’s sisters and their husbands.

She stared up at the large castle that loomed before them. Thick ropes of ivy grew over the stone walls, moss grew along the northern side, and it looked as though it had seen better days.

Was this Declan’s house? She didn’t expect him to have neglected his home so thoroughly. Had he really come here when she rejected him? If he had, did he come here to die, or to hole up in the lair she knew all dragon males possessed? Whatever the case, she had to find him. She had to tell him she was sorry she had wasted their lives, their chance at happiness. Her eyes filled with tears when she thought of the loneliness he must have felt all the long centuries he’d lived.

Closing her eyes, she hummed the song he’d taught her. She always felt closer to him with the melody in her mind. He had told her the song was one his mother sang to him when he was young.

After a moment, a strange feeling pulled her, tugged her to her left. Ignoring her companions, Emily opened her eyes and began to walk.

She was about halfway between the neglected castle and a steep cliff when she stopped and looked down. At her feet was a large round stone, shaped like a giant seal with odd-looking letters carved into its surface.

Lowering herself to her aching knees, she reached out, slowly removing the weeds and thick heather that had tried to hide it.

“I wish I knew what it says.” She glanced up at her entourage. Tears filled her eyes and slid down her cheeks. Something told her this was where Declan had gone all those years ago, after she rejected him. She stared down at the stone that must have been his grave marker and willed herself not to cry for her lost love. “He’s in there, isn’t he?”

She didn’t want anyone to tell her that he was gone, that she was too late to tell him she was sorry. Still, she needed an answer. She needed closure.

Adrian, Summer’s dragon mate, bent down and rested his hands on his knees. He frowned at the beautiful script before reading it aloud. “Here lies the Red Dragon, red for the rubies he guards and for the passion he holds for his one true mate.”

Emily grasped the center of her chest. The pain would have brought her to her knees if she hadn’t already knelt down upon them. She bent over, sobbing onto the stone that covered the body of the only man she had ever loved.

Her sobs only grew worse when he continued. “Open only if you wish to experience the wrath of Declan Brus. Here he shall remain, resting forever.”

“Okay. I could be wrong, but doesn’t that sound like he’s still alive in there?” Summer’s sister, May moved around the outside of the stone, her mate, Damek, always hovering close.

They didn’t know. They couldn’t feel the deep, heart-wrenching loss she felt at Declan’s absence. Emily had stopped feeling their connection long ago. Then, she had been certain he had found another. Nothing had prepared her to find out that he had willed himself to die. Alone. Like all dragons without a mate, he was always alone.

“It sounds that way to me,” Summer said as she made a circuit around the large, beautifully carved stone. “So, how do we open it?”

What would be the point? Emily wanted to scream at them all. Why bother? They were too late. She was too late. He was dead, which was the only explanation she could think of for why he was buried beneath the earth and his once beautiful castle falling to pieces.

“I don’t know. It is likely that there is something in the castle, but until we can legally get inside, we won’t know anything.” Adrian straightened and stared at the stone structure, standing so forlorn and forgotten. “Do you think there is a caretaker here?” He frowned toward the castle. “If there is, he hasn’t been doing his job keeping the structure in good repair.

“If there isn’t, someone has to be paying the rates and taxes. Otherwise, the government would have seized and sold it by now. I would hypothesize that Declan has someone watching over his home while he’s in mourning.” Damek turned to look at her. “Though you are still with us, he mourns your loss.”

He mourned the loss of his mate and willed himself to die. He was buried here, deep in the ground, and she was too late to tell him she was sorry. Emily buried her head in her hands and sobbed again. Why had she turned him down all those years ago? Why hadn’t she trusted him to love her the way he claimed he did?

The others spoke around her. She was certain that something important was going on around her, but she didn’t care. How could she care when her mate had given up on living because she had rejected him so many years before?

Her heart broke all over again as she knelt atop his grave and cried for all the things that could have been, if only she had been brave enough to love a dragon.

TIGERS LIKE IT HOT by Tianna Xander

TIGERS LIKE IT HOT by Tianna Xander

Caspian Cascade # 1

Who knew shape shifters exist and they adore curvy, full-figured women?

When Jessi decides to leave her home town for the second time, she and her best friend Kelly devise a plan. They’ve researched six different towns, they’ve drawn the orders of their visits from a hat and they’re determined to stick to the new path they’ve set out for themselves.

When Gareth and Mac set out in search of a mate, they didn’t expect company in the form of two unwanted tag-along friends, and they certainly didn’t expect their sort of well-laid plans to grind to a screeching halt in a town they had never even heard of before.

How did they all end up in the town dubbed Halloween town for the week when none of them had even planned to stop there for anything more than lunch?

Excerpt:

“That’s it! I’ve had it.” Jessi snarled as she stalked into the apartment she shared with her best friend, Kelly. “I’ve had it. I am so out of here. Just watch how fast I’m outta here. Your head will spin.”

Throwing her purse on the couch, she stomped to the coat closet and pulled her suitcases out. One by one, she dragged them into her room and hefted them up onto the bed. After hoisting the last one up, she unzipped them and started pulling her dresser drawers out, which she unceremoniously dumped into the open bags.

“What’s the matter?” Kelly leaned against the door frame, her arms crossed, a little crease between her brows. “What are you doing?”

“I’m leaving. That’s what I’m doing.” Jessi waved her hand above her head. “I’ve had it up to here with Billy’s innuendo and Bobby’s pawing. Let them find some other girl to torment. I’m not taking it anymore.”

Tears burned her eyes as she thought about leaving home again. It wasn’t the town she would miss. It was Kelly who would fill her thoughts as she drove away, leaving this town in the dust for the last time. At least she wouldn’t leave Kelly penniless. She’d managed to invest her way into a sizable bank account over the years. While she had a larger bank account than Kelly’s, it wasn’t much larger. The money she’d saved and invested for them both over the time she’d lived and worked in the city, if they continued to invest it wisely, would last the rest of their lives.

“I should have known that I could never come home.” She dashed the tears away with the back of her hand. “Why can’t those jerks just leave me alone?”

For whatever reason, the people in town, mainly the guys she grew up with, wouldn’t forget her wild youth. They reminded Kelly of it constantly. What had made her think that she would be any different?

Every person in town was guilty of doing something they weren’t proud of doing when they were younger. Yet, they constantly reminded her that she wasn’t perfect, and she wasn’t wife material. She and Kelly were good enough to screw any man in town—not that they would do that anymore—but they drew the line at a one-night-stand. Apparently, the men in town had never made it into the modern world. They still held their women to different standards. Jessi hated that.

So what that she’d had low self-esteem when she was younger? What difference did it make that she had done the very thing that every man in town had done at one time or another in their adolescence.

“I just can’t take it anymore.” Jessi shook her head and sighed. A year was already too long to put up with that crap. “This time when I leave, I’m never coming back here.”

Jessi stared at the clothes haphazardly piled in her bags. Her shoulders drooped at the thought of losing her best friend, yet again. She turned to Kelly. “I’ll miss you.” Her voice cracked as she barely kept herself from bawling. She felt like she did fifteen years ago, all over again.

“No you won’t.”

“What do you mean, I won’t miss you? Of course, I will! You’re my best friend.” Did Kelly think she didn’t really care?

“You won’t miss me because…” Kelly paused, then grinned. “I’m going with you this time. If you think I’m going to let you leave me here again, you’re out of your cotton pickin’ mind.”

“B-but why would you leave your home, too?”

Kelly tilted her head and stared at her with a frown. “Do you think those asshats treat me any differently than they treat you?” She shook her head. “I’m sick to death of it, too.” She sat up, clapped her hands together and grinned. “I say we get the hell out of this little Podunk town and find a place where we can really live!” She headed for the doorway, presumably to go pack. “When does our adventure begin?”

“So, when ya gonna take me out, sugar?” the woman asked as she combed out his hair.

Damn! Why couldn’t he remember her name? She’d only cut his hair every two months since they retook Paradise six years ago. Why couldn’t he think? His mind spun, his gut burning. He studied the woman. Leaning close, he took another sniff. She smelled nice, but she wasn’t his mate.

A slight breeze hit him when the door opened and a woman walked in. Hair as straight as a preacher’s morals and black as sin itself floated around her shoulders. It shone in the artificial light, its glossy strands reflecting blue-black as she strode to the cash register. Tight jeans showed off her ample curves with hips wide enough to take a man.

Now that’s a woman. His nostrils flared. Wade took a deep breath and groaned. “What’s that delicious smell?”

What’s-her-name leaned down, pressing her lips against his ear. “That would be me, sugar.” She straightened when he chose to ignore her comment. “The usual cut then?”

Wade grimaced at her tone. She sounded pissed.

“You know what?” He stood quickly, grabbed the black nylon material draped around him and yanked it free. She wasn’t getting a razor anywhere near his head using that tone. “I forgot I have an appointment in…” He checked his wrist. Damn! He’d forgotten his watch, as well? “In about fifteen minutes. I gotta run.”

Grabbing his hat, he jammed it on his head and hurried for the door.

It wasn’t until he nearly ran down the woman at the counter, buying shampoo, of all things, that he realized where that wonderful aroma originated. His gut clenched, his insides going into meltdown as he stared at the gorgeous woman who stood in front of him.

He wanted nothing more than to grab a lock of that glossy black hair that fell around her shoulders and bring it to his nose. Perfect brows rose with surprise when he grabbed her upper arms. Sparks flew between them, and the hair on his arms stood on end, the sensation not unlike a transformer exploding in a lightning strike.

The woman, no, the goddess, stared up at him, her startled gaze frozen in a mask of beautiful and obvious amazement.

It did Wade’s heart good to know she was as affected by their contact as he was.

“Excuse me.” Wade managed to squeeze the words out as he stood staring at pure feminine perfection.

His heart raced, his chest ached, and he realized he’d forgotten to breathe. What really shook him up was when his beast lifted its head and he sniffed the air again.

Mate! The word shimmered in his mind. Deep within his human form, his cat stretched, unsheathed its claws, a low rumble in its throat, his throat, and it repeated the wonderful, fateful word…mate.

His arms tightened around me. Big strong arms too, I might add. My clit twitched with delight. I gritted my teeth and tried to ignore it. I do have a brain in my head and I’m not about to let my nether parts tell me whom to sleep with.

Against my will, my left hand left the confines of my right armpit, where I’d stuck it for protection. It slid sensuously up over his chest and shoulder, before it slowly wrapped itself around his neck.

To my complete surprise and mortification, I buried my hand in his hair and brought my head closer to his.

“Why can’t I stop myself?” I asked, just before I pressed my lips against his.

“You find me irresistible,” he growled against my mouth. His voice was compelling. The low timber crawled through my body like a living thing. It made me want to do all sorts of interesting things with this man. His tongue dueled with mine, both of us wanted to win a war of dominance.

When our lips met, I felt much as I did with Brock, but with Micah, I felt . . . more. I wanted to kiss him, to fondle him. To know I gave satisfaction as much as I was receiving it.

With Brock, it had been different. I had wanted nothing more than to feel his huge cock as it pounded inside me.

“Stop thinking of other men,” Micah said, against my mouth as he playfully nipped at my lips.

I looked around and noticed, for the first time, that I was lying on my bed. Either I hadn’t paid attention while he searched the upstairs for my room, or he had a great sense of direction. I’m pretty sure it was the former.

I pulled away and fought for my next breath. I needed space. I needed to get away from him to think. I couldn’t concentrate when he was so close, when I could feel the heat from his body as it seeped into mine. It sent little licks of flame through my blood.

It wasn’t normal that he could read my mind. Sure, I’ve heard of telepathy but I’ve never met anyone with it. The whole idea was absurd. If I believe that, the next thing he’ll tell me is that we can communicate without talking. It was all I could do, not to snort.

He ran his hand through my hair and pushed my bangs back from my face to look into my eyes.

“You must rid yourself of your virginity. It is a weakness – a weapon that can be held against you.”

“Now I’ve heard it all,” I laughed derisively and pushed at his chest. “All of my life, my father, my grandmother and the church have told me to abstain. Then suddenly you come along and tell me that I have to have sex to save my life? Puhleeze!”

This is too much!

I slid out from under him and tried to avoid his roaming hands. Then I stood up, walked to the window and looked out through the darkness. I wrapped my arms around my churning middle and wondered how many more impossible things I was expected to face in one day.

Damn! If he wasn’t so pressed for precious time, he’d pursue her. A little recreational sex was just what the doctor ordered. He’d loved watching her. Then she’d gone and disappointed him by eating too quickly and leaving barely ten minutes after they arrived. Still, by the way she carried herself, he’d bet she was beat. Even the dark circles under her eyes couldn’t detract from her loveliness. It merely brought out his protective instincts. His cock grew hard at the mere thought of sinking into her moist heat.

Nick leaned toward him, his telepathic link clear, Will you stop it already?

Adam’s eyes widened. I’m sorry. I didn’t realize I’d connected with you.

Well, you did. Don’t you usually connect with me when you see a prime specimen like her? Nick gave a snort of derision. Now mycock is near to bursting with no relief in sight. It’s been years since I’ve felt such an intense craving for a woman. I want nothing more than to seek her out, bury my head between her legs and lap up her woman’s thick cream like a cub.

Adam could only agree with that idea. It wasn’t until they both saw the woman slinking through the darkness on their way to their room that their suspicions were aroused. He held up his hand, silently stopping Nick in his tracks.

~Excerpt~

Milla stared at the tarot card and sighed. This was the fifth day in a row that she’d turned over the death card in her tarot spread. The storm outside grew fierce, the wind buffeting the walls of the small hotel. She resigned herself to the fact that she would have to leave this place.

“On the winds of change,” she said with a sigh.

Death never meant a physical death like so many people thought. It stood for change. Usually, it meant the death of something old and the birth of something new. In her case, it meant that she had to move…again. It wasn’t surprising. Had she thought she’d be able to stay, she would have rented a house instead of a hotel room. She would pack up her things today and head out in the morning.

For now, though, she wanted to hike up the mountain and look down at the town one last time. She had grown fond of Mason. Not as fond as she’d hoped, but, so far, this town had been the closest to what she’d been looking for in a place to finally put down some roots. It was too damned bad the cards had just told her to move on.

The storm over, the early morning sun broke through the clouds, the rays shining like a beacon, lighting up the spot on the mountain where she wanted to go. It was another sign. One that she interpreted as an indication that she’d made the right decision.

After hiking up the side of the mountain, Milla sat down on a fallen log. Moisture seeped through the seat of her pants, but she didn’t care. Closing her eyes, she leaned back and took a deep breath. “Now, that’s what I’m talking about,” she said with a sigh.

There was nothing like clean, crisp air to do a body good. There was just something about a fresh mountain breeze after a cleansing summer rain.

Mason was close to what she wanted in a hometown but not quite. Maybe that was why the cards indicated she should leave. Milla wanted a small town with small-town values. She wanted to see men open the doors for women. She wanted common courtesy and chivalry. Maybe, just maybe, she wanted the impossible.

“I was born in the wrong time. That’s my problem.” She gave the picturesque town one last look and headed back to her hotel. It was time to leave—today. Something told her that it was time to go. Now. It was the same strange foreboding that preceded the arrival of the carnies sent out to look for her. Why couldn’t they just leave her alone? It wasn’t as though she owed them money. In fact, they owed her. It was one of the reasons why she left in the first place. There was nothing like working for peanuts.

She hurried down the side of the mountain, the feeling of urgency growing stronger. They were close. It was only a matter of time before they caught up to her. She’d have to take the time to stop at the hotel, pick up her things and hit the grocery store for some sandwich stuff on her way out of town.

After that, she’d head west again. Sooner or later she would run into a town that suited her old-fashioned standards…she hoped.

Until then, she would just keep looking. Milla had been on the road for nearly a year searching for her vision of paradise. She knew the town of her dreams was out there somewhere. It was just a matter of finding it.

After packing, she began lugging her belongings from the room. The worst part of not having a home was living out of her SUV. She carried everything she needed with her, but loading the vehicle was a pain in the butt and growing more painful with every stop.

Every time she moved, she gathered a little more stuff for her dream home. Dish towels here, bath towels there. If she wasn’t careful, she’d fill her truck soon, and then where would she be? She’d have to buy a trailer and haul that around with her, too. Then what?

Out of breath, her heart pounding with exertion, she hauled her suitcase out to the SUV and attempted to lift it into the back.

“Here, let me help you with that.”

Daisy’s heart skipped a beat as the man looked toward her. He smiled, probably at no one in particular, and began to cross the room. He was handsome in a geeky-bookish sort of way and just her type.

Thick black-framed glasses hid a portion of his face along with a lock of thick, black hair that fell carelessly over his right eye. He almost looked like a comic book super hero come to life. Though, thinking him the superhero type was probably a little ambitious, the man was the epitome of the handsome English lord from all of the romance novels she had ever read. Tall and on the thin side of muscular, he was quite handsome.

Her breath caught in her throat as she watched him approach. Normal seemed written all over him. If there was anything Daisy wanted from her life, it was normal. She hated witchcraft and she hated the fact that she could screw up something—or someone—at any time, with just a look. However, what she hated the most was the fact that she couldn’t control any of her powers.

The scent of something burning in one of the chafing dishes had her closing her eyes with frustration. She wasn’t sure which one it was, but one of these dragons brought out her powers. She had to get out of here before he found her.

She didn’t want to use her powers, they were dangerous. If she didn’t burn something down, she would freeze it, or worse.

That was the main reason why she kept her wand buried in the back of her underwear drawer, only taking it out and dusting it off when her sisters insisted she must.

She slowly shook her head when she thought of her sisters. She had twelve of them. Every one of them were adopted, just as she had been and every one of them were just as crappy with their spell casting as she was, with the exception of those who had found their mates.

Turning away from handsome Mr. Normal, who still headed her way, Daisy made a face. She didn’t want a mate, not like that. She wanted normal—like the man walking in her direction, with a smile he aimed right at her.

“Hello. I don’t think we’ve met.” The man held out his hand. “I’m Jarrod. I live across the way.” He crooked his thumb behind him and extended his arm again. He clearly wanted to shake her hand.

Around here, across the way, translated into the estate next door.

“Oh. I didn’t think—” She placed her hand in his and blushed when he bent over and kissed the back of it.

Straightening, he laughed. “I’m sure you wouldn’t.” He indicated his worn slacks and button down shirt. He didn’t seem to notice her blush, thank goodness.

She didn’t want to look like some sort of a bumpkin.

“No one thinks I could live in this neighborhood.” He made a face. “Let’s just say it’s old money and leave it at that, shall we? I’ve never really wanted it, but my father thrust it upon me quite against my will.”

His father had probably died and left it to him. Parents had a way of inconveniencing one in that manner. Daisy’s parents had died quite suddenly, leaving her with a condo at the beach. She would rather have had her mother and father than the condo, but there was nothing she could do about it.

None of them had known what would happen when her sister, Rose, had cast that spell. They certainly hadn’t expected her to blow up their parents. They also hadn’t expected to find out that their parents had been quite well off. They left each of their seven sons with a small nest egg and each of their thirteen daughters with a piece of property that suited their personalities and personal needs.

Daisy loved the beach. She always had. It was away from everyone during the off season and the beach season only lasted four months out of the year. It was perfect. She loved the alone time. If she were truthful, she would say she lived for it.

“I can relate.” Daisy gave him a wry smile. If she could understand anything, it was having things thrust upon her—witchcraft, unwanted magical powers, the possibility of harming someone every time she got near a particular dragon. Though, she’d been lucky so far. So far, she hadn’t had a bout of uncontrollable magic like her sisters had…until tonight. “I’ve had a lot of things forced upon me.”

Reaching out, she took his proffered hand. “I’m Daisy, by the way.” She glanced around, trying to find one of her sisters. Usually, one couldn’t swing a cat without hitting one of them. She did have twelve sisters, after all. It was a given that one of them would go tattle to her brother-in-law, Drake, that she was talking with a human.

“So what are you doing here?” She so wanted to reach out, push his sliding glasses back up his nose and brush that lock of hair out of his eyes.

“Oh, the lady of the house invited me when she found out that I had unexpectedly returned from Greece.” He smiled, stuck his hands in the pockets of his expensive-looking, but worn, black slacks and tilted his head toward the door. “Dancing’s not really my thing, but it would be wonderful if we could take a walk in the garden together. The music in here is kind of loud, don’t you think?”

So, he isn’t perfect after all. Daisy glanced toward the door, a little disappointed. She loved dancing. She sighed as she took his offered arm and let him lead her toward the patio door. “That’s too bad,” she said as they headed out on to the veranda. “I love to dance.”

“Well,” he said with a wink, “no one’s perfect. Everyone has some sort of flaw. It’s best we learn to get used to them and move on. Don’t you think?” He grinned, flashing an adorable dimple that made her go weak in the knees.

“Are you okay?” He caught her as she stumbled.

“Um…y-yes.” Good grief! She was stammering now. How adolescent.

Taking a deep breath, she looked up into eyes so blue they appeared to be the same color as the sapphires in the earrings her mother had left to her.

“I’m sorry. I seem to be clumsy today. I don’t know why…” She glanced around as the music changed to a slow dance, and she couldn’t help but wish the man knew how to waltz at least.

“Is there something wrong?” he asked as he pulled her toward a wrought iron bench surrounded by roses. He waited until she sat before seating himself. So…he was a gentleman. That was another tic on the plus side on the list of his attributes—that and his yummy English accent.

Daisy took a deep breath. “I love the smell of roses. Don’t you?” She adored her sister’s gardens here in England and in America. If there was one thing she could say about April’s husband, Drake, it was that he had taste and it wasn’t all in his mouth.

“Yes, I do.” He nodded, his gaze burning over her face. “I think they’re absolutely beautiful.”

Laughing, she asked, “Are we even talking about the same thing?”

“What was that?” Maxim turned at the sound of a high-pitched wail. He frowned.

“It sounds like a child,” Matteus replied. “You don’t think those damned miners are trying to screw one again do you? What is it about those sick bastards trying to rape little boys?”

“I have no idea, but I do know that I would love to put at least two of them out of everyone’s misery.” Max ran toward the screams. He hoped to get there before the disgusting miners scarred the poor child for life.

Matt rounded the corner first, his eyes going wide. “Holy God. They’ve killed someone.”

Maxim smiled at Matt’s words. Death was never a good thing, but if it got a few of those sick bastards out of town on a prison wagon, at least the loss of life wasn’t a total waste.

They each skidded to a stop as they looked down at the dark, red-gold hair spread out around the face of an angel.

Taking a deep breath, the woman’s scent filled his nostrils and everything in him went still for a moment before his wolf snarled with rage. This woman could be his mate. He looked at Matteus. She could very well be mate to both of them, and someone had hurt her, possibly killed her.

A growl formed deep in his throat as he stood looking at the first woman on this Earth, hell, in the universe that had stirred his senses in over two hundred years.

He looked at the man who stood over her with a leer on his face and growled again. “Don’t touch her!” It was all he could do to keep himself from turning into his wolf and ripping the miner’s throat out. Who in the helldid he think he was, laying a hand upon any decent woman?

“I’ll touch her if I damned well please. She’s my whore. I saw her first.” The miner bent down and thrust his dirty fingers into her beautiful hair.

“Touch her again and pull back a nub.” The look on Matt’s face said he meant business. No one defied Max’s second-in-command when he used that look. Hell, Max had a hard time ignoring that look, and he was Chancellor of Taos and ruler of their kind. He wasn’t intimidated by anyone, but that look Matt got on occasion had always been enough to give him pause.

When the miner continued reaching toward their mate, both he and Matt growled. The two miners froze in place. The sound was…inhuman, as it should have been, considering they were wolven. They were what these men would call werewolves here on this planet. However, the miners didn’t know that.

“What’s the matter with you?” Elmer spat on the ground in front of him. “She’s nothin’ but a whore.” He grinned and then grabbed his crotch. “You can have a turn after we’re done with them.”

Max knelt down, brushed the hair from the beauty’s face, and glared at the man who dared to strike a female. “Leave us, or die, Fred.” He growled again and just for the hell of it, he let some of the predator glow show in his eyes.

Fred swallowed visibly. The acrid scent of fear poured off the man in waves and he stood, backing away. “Let’s get outta here, Elmer.” He backed up a few paces and helped his friend to his feet. “She’s probably no fun anyway. I don’t know of any good whore that would kick a man’s jewels up into his throat.”

The two left. Fred limped away, his friend supporting him, while he still held a hand pressed against his crotch. Elmer hovered close to his friend, complaining about harlots who didn’t know their place.

Max turned his attention back to their mate. A bruise bloomed on the side of her face in the short time he knelt over her. The only reason the two miners still lived was because they had no idea she was their mate. Otherwise, he would have killed them where they stood. Part of him still thought he should. If any human was nothing more than a waste of skin, it was those two.

Matt leaned down intending to talk to the boy, trying to gain his trust while Max reached for the woman, picked her up in his arms, then stood and looked down. As much as he wanted to give Matt the time he needed to get the boy to come along without a fight, he knew they needed to get the woman out of this town before she woke up. There was no doubt that she would never leave town with them willingly if she regained consciousness first.

“I am Max,” he said to the boy. Pointing to Matt, he added, “And this is Matteus, though you may call him Matt. We wish to help your mother. Will you allow it?”

The boy, who couldn’t have been more than ten or so, looked up at him through wide blue eyes and said something in a language he didn’t understand.

“Wonderful. He doesn’t speak English,” Max said with a sigh, resting his hands on his hips as he turned toward the livery. “I hope she does, or this is going to be an interesting courtship. Bring the boy, Matt. We need to get her home and into bed. There’s no telling what kind of damage those two did to her.”

Max looked down at his unconscious mate and wanted nothing more than to tear the two worthless men limb from limb, but he knew that would only end in a jail sentence for both him and Matt. It went without saying that they would reveal what they were as well, and that was something he couldn’t do, no matter how badly his wolf howled for retribution. It would put all of the wolven here on Earth at risk.

Turning, he headed toward the large barn where they’d stowed their horses. “I want to have her all to ourselves and away from this town when she wakes up.”

February 12th 2013

Mia stared up at the ceiling, her unfocussed gaze seeing nothing more in the darkness than the spinning blades of the fan over the bed. She blinked slowly, swallowing as her lovers kissed her neck. Their tongues traced a path to the tips of her breasts, drawing each one into the warmth of their mouths.

Wet velvet tongues circled her sensitive nipples. Moist lips circled the tight buds. She arched her back with a moan. Why didn’t they hurry? She needed them inside her so much, she thought she might go mad with it.

Strong fingers caressed her skin as they delved deep between her legs. She bucked at the first contact with her clit. Sharp teeth nipped and shards of pure electric pleasure shot straight from the hardened tips to her groin. Moisture slid sinuously from her channel, slickening her flesh.

“Tell us you want us, love.”

How could she tell them anything but what they wanted to hear? “God, yes! I want you so much.”

Tonight was the second time they would take her together. Afterward, they would leave for two days, returning just in time for the wedding ceremony they all had planned. Her blood heated at the thought that soon, the two of them would be inside her and she would truly belong to them both.

It was one thing to have two younger, hot men date her, and bed her, saying that everything was okay. It was another to have them together while she made love to them both.

Never had she thought she would ever be lucky enough to catch the attention of such handsome men. Never had she dreamed that the same two handsome men would want her—not at her age.

They looked so young, and she was no spring chicken. That was for sure. At forty, she looked almost old enough to be their mother. What had shocked her, though, was finding out that these two gorgeous guys were vampires. Both of them were ancient. She might look like a cradle robber while she went out with them, but the situation was, in fact, quite the reverse. Not that she minded at this moment in time.

They both suckled her nipples, pulling the tight buds into their mouths until she squeezed her eyes shut. Her thoughts, every conscious desire she had, floated away on a sea of lust and want until all she could think about was having them both inside her.

“**** me.” She tossed her head on the bed. “I can’t take this anymore. Please. **** me,” she begged while they continued to stroke her sensitized flesh. They nipped and licked their way over her body as she whimpered, her head thrashing on the thick comforter.

“We want this night to be unforgettable.” A hand cupped her cheek and turned her head. “Look at me,” Pierce said, the bass of his voice low with command.

Mia opened her eyes and looked up into his dark gaze. A lock of black hair fell over his forehead, masking his brows.

“This night is in preparation for the fourteenth.” He pressed a gentle kiss to her lips. “We will claim you in the way that only we can that night. Until then, this must be enough, though it will give us all a cursory bond.” He bent his head to her breast to suck its tip into his mouth, his teeth nipping lightly. “Do we have your permission to do so?”

“Yes! God, Pierce, you and Vincent can do whatever you like. Just **** me!”

It was a damned good thing they had decided to pay a couple of the human locals to keep a lookout for anyone trespassing on their property. Ever since scientists found the skeleton of one of their kind in a cave in the area, there had been hundreds of eager scientists looking for more.

They had been lucky with the first one. The bones had been so old, there hadn't been even the tiniest amount of viable DNA left in it. He glanced at Gavin who moved up next to him. "How do ye suppose they knew about the cave?”

"I dinnae know," Gavin said with a grunt as he pulled himself up another arm's length with little more than the tips of his fingers.

The cavern was once a sacred place for his people. They lived inside, using the fresh water that ran down the walls to drink and the small, underground lake for bathing. Now, they merely wished to keep it hidden to stop others from finding the pictographs inside.

It was never easy to explain why the hunters on the wall appeared to turn into animals before becoming men once again. They would have destroyed the cave and its evidence of the existence of shape shifters long ago, if it weren’t for the historical significance it held for their kind.

Fifteen minutes later, Malcolm climbed over the edge, stood up and heaved a sigh as be bent to brush the dirt from his jeans. “That was a bit of a challenge.”

“I’ll bet it was, if you climbed up here from the bottom. That looks like a two-hundred foot drop.”

Looking up, Malcolm met the gaze of the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Long red hair framed her heart-shaped face as she stared up at him with her gorgeous green eyes. Her thick jacket hung open over a sweater and blouse. She wore the legs of her loose fitting denims tucked inside thick, woolen socks. He cast a glance to her companion to note they dressed in a similar fashion. They were of a similar size, except the redhead was about two inches taller. He would have had a difficult time telling them apart at a distance had it not been for the long, fiery hair the one possessed.

“Aye, it is.” He smiled. “More like two-hundred and thirty.”

“You could have fallen!” The redhead looked genuinely worried for his wellbeing. It made his smile grow larger. Why, he had no idea.

“Aye.” He nodded. “Ye could have fallen, as well. The narrow path tae the cave isn’t much safer.” Malcolm didn’t mention that he would heal much faster from greater wounds than either of the women could. They were human. He and Gavin were not.

“Did ye have a guide, a local tae show ye around?” Gavin asked as he moved forward and offered his hand to the lass with the short-cropped dark hair. “Because if ye did, I’d like tae know who would bring two such bonnie lasses up here and leave them tae themselves.”

“No,” the two women said at the same time.

The gorgeous redhead shook her head, blushing prettily. “We couldn’t find anyone to lead us here.” She reached into her back pocket and pulled out a piece of paper. “I had this map my grandfather drew for me.”

Malcolm glanced at the paper, his temper flaring. “Did ye tell the locals what ye were about?"

"Of course we did!" She bristled. The action only made her more attractive. However, Malcolm doubted she would appreciate his saying so. "Do you think we have a death wish? We wanted help. We even asked for help. All we got were chuckles and innuendo.”

“Damn those hu—“

“Huge pains in the arses at the pub,” Malcolm finished for Gavin when the other man would have said humans.

“Aye. They are that,” Gavin agreed, shoving his hands in his pockets, his gaze shifting to his feet.

Do ye scent something different about the bonnie redheaded lass, Gavin? Malcolm asked as she moved toward the path down the cliff.

Aye, old friend. She smells sweet, like candy.

Malcolm’s skin prickled as he looked at the woman and took another deep breath. I think she’s my mate. He looked to his friend.Tell me ye scent it, as well. I dinnae think I could bear tae share her with a man I dinnae know.

Aye. I scent it too. Best we get them out of the cold and into the castle afore they slip away without a trace. We dinnae have an idea where tae find her should she disappear. I dinnae know about ye, but I want tae know where tae find her should she decide tae go home.

Malcolm wanted that as well. They had lived alone too long to lose her now. Let’s get them home and see if we can convince them tae stay awhile. Maybe her friend is someone’s mate, too. He wasn’t sure the men of their clan could get that lucky. However, he knew Gavin was correct. They needed to get the two females to go with them so they could learn more about the woman who just might be their mate.

Smiling, she thought about one of her friends from college. Maria loved men to the point that she wasn’t happy if she wasn’t dating at least two at a time. Ultimately, Maria ended up living with two men. Maria seemed happy enough. Yet, while a ménage relationship sounded intriguing to Lena, she wasn’t interested. Pleasing one man was difficult enough. Why in the world would she want two? It seemed like way too much work to her.

Reaching the bridge, she ran lightly up the ramp and out onto the arc that stretched across the river. Lena checked her watch again. By her calculations, she should be home in less than an hour, and she’d finish with her shower just in time to watch her favorite TV show. After that, she would go to bed and soon start a new day all over again. She wasn’t even finished with this one, and already, she looked forward to her next run.

Just as she reached the halfway point of the bridge, the ground shook violently and the sky became dark. If she didn’t know better, Lena would have thought that perhaps there was some truth to some of the movies she’d watched with Maria about extraterrestrials.

Bright light and a swirl of brilliant color surrounded her right before the bridge pixilated and broke apart. With a silent scream, Lena fell into the ensuing darkness.

“What’s happening to me?” Finally, she could hear her own screams.

“You are getting your wish, young one.”

“Young one?” Lena could have laughed if she wasn’t scared silly. “I’m nearly thirty-five.” She glanced around, seeing only darkness.

“That is young to someone like me.”

The darkness abated and Lena could see. What she saw nearly made her drool, but the man was way too young for her.

“Right,” she said with a snort. “You can’t be a day over twenty-five.”

“I am many days over that age, madam.” He smiled at her, revealing a little dimple in his right cheek that was so appealing, it was all she could do to not touch it.

Lena frowned at the thought. What was coming over her? She never had thoughts like those. She peered out into the darkness surrounding them before returning her gaze to the man before her.

“I am Garrick the Gatekeeper. I have been what you would call a fairy godfather for close to three thousand years.” He bowed slightly. “I am also called Garrick the Good.”

Lena glanced around her, looking for an avenue of escape, but she could still see nothing outside the circle of light that surrounded them.

“I am a messenger of the Wyrd sisters, the sisters of destiny. You might know them by their Greek name, the Fates.”

“Right,” Lena said as she backed away from him. “Don’t try to impress me with myth and nonsense. It won’t work. I’m not gullible.” Not anymore.

She refused to attribute this to some sort of intervention by the gods. She wasn’t even sure she believed in a higher power, let alone a bunch of gods running about sticking their noses in everyone’s life for their amusement.

“Look, mister, I don’t know who you are, and I really don’t much care. Just take me back to the bridge and we’ll forget this happened.” She nervously licked her lips. “Really. I don’t have time to fill out police reports, so if you’ll just take me back, I’ll run on home and we can both go our separate ways.”

She didn’t mention that she wouldn’t report what happened, because if she told anyone, they would most likely lock her up in the loony bin. Who would believe the bridge disintegrated and turned into little more than little square pixels like a computer-generated program before she fell through it into darkness instead of the river?

Garrick pulled something from the inside of his leather vest and checked it. “The thread locator does not lie.” He showed it to her as though she could make sense of the kaleidoscope of colors swirling around its electronic face.

“It also doesn’t say anything,” she said with a snort. “Of course it can’t lie. It’s a piece of electronics, not a person. Only people lie.” Of that, Lena was most aware.

“I told you we should have gotten better seats.” Hell, it wasn’t as though they couldn’t afford better seats. Mitch scowled down at his companion. “I want to see her. It’s been almost a year.”

So far all he could see was the woman in front and between himself and Wyatt who wore the largest, most hideous hat he’d ever seen in his life. He rested his elbow on the padded armrest and rubbed the spot between his eyes.

“If I didn’t know better, I’d think you had more tender feelings for Carmen than an uncle should have.” Wyatt grinned at him.

“Shh…” a woman complained behind them. “I paid for tickets to hear the orchestra, not to hear you two flapping your lips.”

Mitch fought the urge to look back and growl at the woman. He wanted to express his anger, not scare the woman into wetting her pants. Like all shifter males, he could make his eyes glow in low light and his growl would be that of a male tiger. Somehow, he didn’t think that would go over well in the auditorium.

Instead, he listened to the music and tried to pick out the sound of the violins. He liked classical music, he really did, he just liked being able to see a particular player and pick out the sound of their instrument. Tonight, he wanted that player to be his niece.

He and Wyatt loved Carmen as though she were their daughter. Her parents, killed during the time of the uprising in Paradise, left her in their care. To keep US officials from trying to put her into the system when she attended her first live-in music school at the tender age of twelve, they decided to adopt her in Mason where they knew the long-time sheriff and the county judge.

The two human men knew that Mitchell and Wyatt only had her best interests at heart and finalized the adoption, for Carmen’s safety and wellbeing while out in the world. Many schools of music, like Juilliard, were after all very competitive schools and she would need her uncles close by to lean on.

With that in mind, they even went so far as to move to New York so they would be close by in case she needed them. It was a waste of their time. She’d loved the university and all of the friends she made there.

It wasn’t long after she turned sixteen that she’d come home from Juilliard talking of a girl named Melody. They’d become fast friends and Mitchell couldn’t have been happier for her. Except…she came home carrying the strangest scent. It wasn’t her. He knew that, but he couldn’t place what it was about the scent that made him take notice, other than it made him want to have that scent near him always.

As though obsessed with the smell, he had even gone through her things to find what kind of perfume she wore that could produce such a reaction in him. It wasn’t her perfume. After a week or so, the scent faded from their home and he was able to think of more important things again. Still, the memory remained and every time he saw her, he could smell it on her, this sweet elusive scent that did something strange to his insides.

At first he thought it was only him, but Wyatt finally admitted to smelling it as well after her last visit. What was it that grabbed their attention so fully every time she came home? She wasn’t their mate. They knew that beyond a doubt. Had she been their mate, they would have experienced el calor by now. No, this was something different.

He listened to the orchestra play, still trying to pick out the sound of Carmen’s instrument in vain. He knew she was first violin, second chair, but he also knew the sound he’d zeroed in on wasn’t the first violin part. This was a violin soloist playing a melody, something different from the rest. It was haunting, beautiful. Just as beautiful as the woman he saw playing it. She appeared the same age as Carmen which would make her approximately twenty-two or twenty-three.

Her long hair fell down the long curve of her back in an auburn cascade. The gold highlights shone in the lights that beat down on the stage. Her black dress did nothing to hide the fact that she had a body any shifter male would be proud to sink his **** into.

Curvy in all the right places, she was no frail wraith like most of the women these days. She had meat on her bones and that drew the tiger in him like nothing else could have done.

Her music was that which he’d honed in on when the song started. He looked at her as she played, an expression of complete concentration mixed with something he could only describe as love on her beautiful face.

This woman was first violin first chair and the woman he and Wyatt had been hearing about for the last several years. In fact, Carmen had tried to set them up with her a few times. She was certain her uncles needed a wife and she wanted her best friend to be it. Nothing would make her happier than making Melody Madison a part of their strange little family.

Mitch shifted in his seat, trying to get comfortable. Just looking at the woman made his **** hard. Hell, he hadn’t gotten hard just looking at a woman in fifty or more years. What was it about this human woman that made him want her more than he had wanted any woman for years?

Do you see the woman on the edge of the stage, Wyatt? The violinist in front, closest to the conductor?

What about her? Wyatt asked through the mind link they had had for as long as they could remember. Neither of them could remember if they’d had it before their first blood exchange or not. All they knew was that they had exchanged blood regularly to help each other out of binds when they were younger.

Calling for help while outside of Paradise wasn’t an option when they were younger. The old council would have no one leaving the town without permission. Doing just that was something the two of them had done as often as possible when they were children. They knew they were shifters like those in Paradise, but unlike those in the town, they were tiger shifters, not cougars and jaguars like most of the rest.

From what they had learned from their adopted parents, they had been found weeks apart in different parts of the country. Blood tests confirmed they weren’t related, though they were both found near the body of a dead female tiger. Presumed dead, no one knew where their fathers were.

Sometimes he wondered if the council kept such a tight rein on them as children because they feared what they would become. After all, they were tigers. If they desired, they could take out any male shifter in Paradise with their size alone.

She’s beautiful. I believe she’s that Melody Carmen has been yammering on about for the last few years.

He felt Wyatt stretch upward in his seat to look over the woman with the big hat sitting in front of him. They should require these old women to take their huge hats off or sit in the back, he groused before he nodded. I see her. You’re right. She is a looker.

Mitch turned to look at his friend who suddenly wore a strange expression. She brings out something in you, doesn’t she?

Wyatt nodded. I shouldn’t feel this way for Carmen’s best friend, Mitch. Hell, haven’t we been telling Carmen that we wouldn’t touch her little friend?

What they felt was right and what their bodies demanded could be two totally different things. If what he suspected was true, Carmen’s little friend just may be their mate.

What if the scent he’d been picking up on Carmen all of these years had been their mate growing into adulthood, her body preparing itself to breed? He pressed his hands into his lap, trying to control the raging hard-on he sported.

POLAR BEAR S-EXPRESS by Tianna Xander

POLAR BEAR S-EXPRESS by Tianna Xander

All of her life, Kaitlin is drawn to wounded animals that need her help.

Yet, when she follows an injured turtledove, and its mate, into the woods near her remote cabin in Alaska, she finds out the bird really doesn’t need her help.

The only question she has now is why did the two birds lead her away from her home to a place where a polar bear waited to attack her. The thing that bothers her the most is, why is she so drawn to the two Scotsmen who rescued her from it?

~Excerpt~

After an hour or so, she saw the birds light on the branch of a tree close to the far edge of the forest. Beyond the woods was the vast tundra leading to what she thought was the ocean, or perhaps it was the Bering Straits. She had no idea. Just as she reached the tree, the wounded bird flew up to the uppermost branch of the tree, showing off the fact that there wasn’t anything wrong with it, after all.

“What the heck?” Kat said with a frown. The only reason she’d followed the stinking birds out here was that one had flown the entire way dipping and fluttering around as though it was wounded. Was there a nest all the way up there? If that was the case, she wasn’t about to climb up there and get it. It had to be at least ninety feet up. If she fell from that height, she would break something and never make it back to the cabin.

The animals in the forest grew quiet as the sound of crunching snow reverberated through the woods. Someone was coming and whoever it was wasn’t even trying to be quiet. Rounding the tree to look out over the tundra, Kaitin gasped when she saw a huge polar bear headed her way, and he wasn’t taking his time.

Looking around, she found a tree with low branches and scrambled up until she was relatively certain she was too high for the bear to reach. Great. Now, not only was she at least twenty minutes from the cabin, but she was also treed. Kaitlin closed her eyes.

“What else can go wrong?” she whispered to herself.

Kaitlin immediately got the answer to her question. The bear looked up, saw her perched on the branch and growled low. With a strange chuffing noise, the bear rubbed itself up against the tree, rocking it as though he wanted to shake her out of it.

Pulling the air horn from her pocket, Kaitlin aimed down toward the bear and squeezed. The bear looked up and growled. It must be hungry if the loud noise didn’t do a thing to deter it. If anything, it caused the bear to shake the tree even harder. It was almost as though the thing liked the sound of the horn.

Reaching into her other pocket, Kaitlin pulled out the gun. Aiming into the air, she squeezed the trigger. Still nothing. The huge bear looked up at her and growled just before it rammed its shoulder into the tree.
Standing on its hind legs, it reached toward her, swatting at the lower branches with its paw. If Kat had been even one branch lower, the bear would have clawed her feet. With that thought in mind, she noticed that the bear wasn’t reaching quite as high as it could. If it stretched to its full height, it just might catch her foot with those deadly-looking claws.

She set the safety, jammed the gun back into her pocket and grasped the next branch up. Standing carefully, she climbed up to the next branch. She realized she’d made a mistake just before her foot slipped on the ice-covered branch and she fell on top of the bear.

Stunned for a moment, the large animal just shook its head and stared at her for a minute. Kaitlin screamed and scrambled back, hoping she would have enough time to make it to another tree. It didn’t take long for the polar bear to regain its senses. With another low chuff, it lowered its head and charged.

Taos Wolven Mates Book Two

When Hope Ackerman is kidnapped by two of the hottest young men she has ever seen, she's more worried about their age than the fact they're werewolves from another planet. Taken from her world and into the Old West, can she overcome the fact she's an older woman lusting after two younger men…or is she?

When the sentient warship Carella flings Braxton Nylund and Joran Keavy into the future to find their mate, they waste no time snatching the beauty up when they find her. Returning to the nineteenth century, the two men must convince Hope that not only are they meant to be together, but they aren't as young as they appear.

Can the three find a way to live, laugh, and love together in the past, or will Hope insist they return her to her empty life in the future?

After another hour of sharing a horse with Braxton, Hope was almost ready to scream. Every sway of the horse set her on edge. Every time he stumbled or hopped over a gully had her groin pressed tighter against Braxton’s hard length.

She wanted to turn around, to watch where they were going, but Braxton didn’t seem inclined to let her go and she was tired of arguing. If he wanted to hold her like this and torture them both, she would help him.

With a secret smile she hid against his chest, Hope snuggled closer, lifted her legs and wrapped them around him. If they insisted on playing this game, Hope was determined to play it to the max.
Braxton groaned when the heat of her nether parts rested against his cock. She almost giggled when it throbbed beneath her until he leaned forward to whisper in her ear.

“You’re playing with fire, baby.”

His words sent shivers through her. When was the last time anyone had called her baby in such a sexy tone of voice? Hope wasn’t sure anyone ever had. Bob certainly hadn’t. Her ex’s voice had been more whiney than sexy at any given time. The thought made her frown. Why hadn’t she noticed that before?

Deciding to take a giant leap, Hope leaned forward and pulled his earlobe into her mouth. “I’m counting on it,” she whispered in his ear. If they really wanted to share her, they could start right now as far as she was concerned. It wasn’t as though she could get pregnant. However, the thought of disease scared her, and she didn’t think they would own up to the fact that they were human and agree to use a condom.

With the decidedly strange direction her life had gone over the last few hours, Hope resolved herself to the fact that, for whatever reason, these two hot men had kidnapped her. They could make things pleasant for her or unpleasant. Since she couldn’t stop herself from imagining them all in bed together, she hoped they meant to make things pleasant. Who knows? She might just enjoy herself. How many times had she lain in bed, alone, wishing for some handsome man to sweep her off her feet since Bob left? Here she was with two. She was living the fantasy. What was wrong with grabbing onto the proverbial brass ring for once?

She closed her eyes with a sigh, finally giving in to the impulse to be spontaneous for once in her life. Just this once she wouldn’t be Hopeful Ackerman, prude. Just this once, she would step up and do the wild thing. Literally.

Braxton groaned when she stuck her tongue in his ear. She smiled, thinking of all the ways she could drive him wild before they reached town and before he could find a place where they could be alone.

Her eyes widened then closed when he reached beneath her skirt to press his thumb against her clit. Arrows of delight shot straight to her womb. Her nipples drew tighter as they rubbed against his hard chest and she bit her lip, reaching for her second orgasm on horseback today.

One thing was certain, if they weren’t as old as they claimed, they had the patience of men who were ancient when it came to self-gratification. As far as she knew, neither of them had a release yet today and now, she thought as she screamed against Braxton’s muscular chest, she’d had two in the last couple of hours. On horseback no less!

After her second release of the day, Hope reached between them and freed Braxton from the confines of his jeans. She didn’t know what she planned. She only knew she had the most urgent need to give as good as she got.

Wrapping her fist around his hard shaft, she moved her hand up and down its smooth length. This was what had been missing in her life. This spontaneity. Bob never would have made her come outside. Hell, she could barely get him to do it in the bedroom.

“I shouldn’t do this.” Braxton closed his eyes and took several deep breaths. “Hell, two of my friends have just been murdered and all I can think of is how long will it be before I can sheathe myself within your tight cunt.”

Hope moaned as he breathed the words in her ear. She loved it when a man talked dirty to her as they made love. Something about it turned her on more than she’d thought possible. It was another first. A small giggle escaped when she thought of that.

“What’s so funny, love?”

“I just realized something.” She moaned when Braxton stuck his tongue in her ear. “I have had more sexual firsts in the last few hours than I had in my entire marriage.” She shivered when his expert lips trailed from her ear to move down over her throat. “I suppose that should have told me something, but how can you miss what you have never had?”

“There are going to be a lot of firsts with us, baby.” Braxton grasped her by the waist, picked her up, and brought her breast to his greedy mouth.

Hope gasped. She wrapped her arms around his neck, cupped the back of his head and held him to her. It wasn’t until he reached between them, broke the scrap of material between her legs, and lowered her down over his massive hard-on, that she realized what he’d had in mind.
