THE SWEETEST LOVE by K.T. Bishop

THE SWEETEST LOVE by K.T. Bishop

International Love: Book 3

What's an older woman to do when a sexy younger man has lust in his eyes for her?

Keli Ann Martin had no direction in her life after being dismissed as Entertainment reporter at the Mobile Press-Register. The decline of the newspaper business eliminated a job she cherished. One night at a club, she runs into a Biloxi, Mississippi singer named LaSalle Cox.

Sparks fly between them until LaSalle gets a recording contract in Memphis. The forty-year-old was unemployed and hoped he asked her to come along. LaSalle wasn't sure if he wanted to take their "Cougar" relationship to the next level.

A handsome African-American man strolled onto the stage and introduced himself.

“For those who don't know who I am, my name's LaSalle Cox.” He cracked a joke. “I did get hosed on American Idol, but that's cool. I'll make it without them.”

LaSalle caught the attention of Keli Ann, whose knees buckled together at the sound of his baritone voice. “I'd love to have that hunk between my legs.” Her pussy turned wet and her sexy meter sounded off.

He allowed the musician to warm up their instruments for a few minutes, and then asked the audience to be sympathetic. “I'm not at the level of Ruben Studdard yet, but please don't boo me.”

“This guy begs like Keith Sweat,” Keli Ann said to herself. She sucked on the chipped ice of her coke and was curious to hear the man's voice.

This is my To-Do-Before-I-Turn-30 list:

• Eat an ostrich egg. Check.

• Play with a cheetah cub. Check.

• Swim with a dolphin. Check.

• Scuba dive in a foreign country. Double check for doing it at night.

• Skydive. Check, bonus points because I wasn’t scared.

• Dare to love again. Nah, cross it out. So not going to happen. I’ve learned my lesson.

• Make love on a yacht.

• ... With a stranger for extra points.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not into one-night stands. The idea of getting close and intimate with someone I’m not emotionally involved with gives me the creeps. I only included it in my to-do list because I was hurt and devastated and not thinking straight.

Getting dumped wasn’t on my to-do list. Neither was an impromptu trip to Africa. When my now-ex-boyfriend broke up with me, I simply sold my engagement ring and booked the first holiday package I found. My Before-I-Turn-30 list was born on the long flight towards the Black Continent.

And now I’m in Africa. The sun is hot. The air is hot. My energy levels are up there with over-boiling. In just two short weeks, I managed to put a big fat checkmark next to five items on my bucket list. Beats choosing the wedding cake, that’s for damned sure.

That night, Jude awoke from a disturbed sleep. Maeve haunted his dreams. He sat up in bed, his body soaked in sweat. Images of her sitting across from him with the sun shining on her dark hair sent his blood throbbing to his brain. Visions of her slender body sent shivers of wanton desire through his spine, and he imagined what her skin was like under her clothing. Taking deep breaths, Jude tossed the blankets aside, stumbled from his bed, and shakily made his way to the dresser, grasping its edges. His loins burned, and he poured water from a pitcher into the basin in front of the mirror. He splashed the water over his face and stared at himself in the mirror. A voice inside echoed within the depths of his soul. Go to her. She wants it as much as you.

Walking stealthily down the hall in his bare feet, Jude looked from left to right and then behind him. He’d slipped into his dungarees but was bare-chested. Coming to Maeve’s door, he knocked softly and gently tried the door. Suddenly, she was before him, prim in a flannel gown, her hair in a long braid. Her eyes, however, defied her lady-like attire. She unbuttoned the few buttons at the top of her gown while she licked her lips. Her gaze met his, and she reached for him, clasping the blanket around his shoulders and drawing him near until Jude was so close to her that he could smell the scent of her hair. Jude closed the door with his foot and crushed Maeve against the wall as his mouth closed over hers. She said huskily, “My birthday’s tomorrow. I want you for a present.”

Jude laughed softly, bent over her, and let his lips linger along her neck and face. His breath feathered the downy hair on her neck as he buried his lips into her skin. She hungrily returned his kisses and let her open mouth devour his firm chest. She encircled his neck with hot arms and leaned hard against him. Jude slipped Maeve’s gown over her head and drew in a breath upon seeing that she was naked underneath the gown. She covered his bare torso with kisses as she unzipped his pants with frantic fingers. Within minutes, they were both naked. Jude lifted her, growing hard against her mound as he felt her legs part and wrap around his middle. He made his way to the bed, her legs around his waist. Spasms of desire and pleasure already coursed through his insides, and he leaned over her, drinking in her small frame, creamy skin, ample breasts, and shapely limbs. Maeve’s body grew taut against him, and Jude nibbled her thighs until her legs parted even more. Convulsive spasms raced through Jude’s loins as he penetrated her, collapsing onto her prone body with hurried breathing. He buried his lips in her moist hair and then let waves of sated desire pour through him.

“The nerve of that man. What the hell was I thinking when I started up this fairy tale relationship?”

You were thinking, Dayum, he’s fine. Look at that ass and the way those jeans mold to it; the way that shirt outlines those tight abs with the hard nipples winking at you; and the way his package sat high and proud as if saying ‘here I am come take me’.

“Oh shut the hell up. Where were you when I was thinking all that? Any other time, you would have slapped me upside the head and told me to stop thinking with my hormones.”

Are you for real? Did you not hear what I just said? I would have been a fool to talk you out of at least sampling the goods.

“Yeah and look what ‘sampling the goods’ got me. In too deep and drowning.”

Well, I for one don’t care what our heart says. I need a massage and conscious has got me boiling down here.

“You shut the hell up too” Tessa said to her coochie. “If it weren’t for your picky ass, I would have never given Gavin a second thought.”

It’s not my fault I know what I like and I’m not afraid to admit it.

“Bitch please, you like anything long, fat and hard.”

I resemble that remark and still think we need to go see Gavin.

“Well, you’ll be one achy, hot bitch tonight because going to see Gavin, is out of the question.”

Daydreams: Book 3

It’s a hot summer day and Beth is engaged in her favorite pastime—daydreaming about Grant, the college-aged young man whose cut her lawn every summer since her husband divorced her three years ago. He’s on a football scholarship with a quarterback’s lean limbs, tight abs and strong shoulders and Beth would love nothing better than to figure out how to get to know him better.

She’s imagined a thousand scenarios. Can she bring herself to act on one before the summer ends?

Beth watched Grant hurry down the street from her living room window, his muscular ass moving enticingly within his tight shorts. He’d dressed in record time and run down the street after promising once again to return this evening. She wanted desperately to believe him, even if she was already having trouble accepting that this afternoon had actually happened. She was a forty-year-old divorced housewife. Women like her didn’t have sex in their kitchens with college quarterbacks. Did they?

The soreness in her pussy and the mess in her kitchen and her bedroom suggested otherwise.

She leaned closer to the window, trying to keep sight of Grant as he cut across his front yard and disappeared into his house. She hoped fervently that there was nothing about him, which would give them away to his mother. That would be embarrassing. While technically Grant was an adult and physically he was certainly quite mature, mothers probably didn’t want to see their sons in that light, especially in conjunction with a neighbor down the street. Beth didn’t want to be embarrassed, but she also knew in her heart and soul that she really wanted to see Grant again too. He’d made her feel like a woman for the first time since Doug had left her and that was worth a little risk to her.

Chuck slipped an arm around her shoulders. His fingers against her bare skin sent an unwanted shiver through her. She hated the sexual hunger she found more difficult to control every day.

“Chuck, I mean it!” She glanced around the crowded ballroom, looking for someone to rescue her from his unwanted attentions. “I told you I’m not here alone.” She jerked away from him and collided with a hard, unmistakable male body.

She sucked in a quick breath, dismayed and excited at her unexpected reaction to physical contact with the stranger. “Oh sorry.”

The man replied in a sexy baritone for her ears alone. “I’m not.” His arms encircled her body, drawing her close. When he spoke again, he had raised his voice. “I’ve been looking all over for you.”

She stared up into a pair of warm brown, sexy eyes as he rocked his hips against hers.

She saw a question in the warm gaze. Remaining silent, she inched her hips forward just a breath, allowing the wanton movement to speak for her.

A smile curved his firm, full lips upward. She had a brief moment to appreciate how handsome his smooth, dark features were before he bent his head. He nibbled slowly at her lips with an insistent hunger that coaxed her mouth open. With her lips parted and her body pressed close to his, he sucked on her tongue while grinding his hips against hers until her back arched, a rush of moisture filled her panties, and her toes curled.

“Good morning, ladies. If you don’t mind me asking, what brings you to my home?”

Meghan was the first to speak, and she was straight to the point. “We are here to ask you to go out on a date with our dad.”

If the looks on their faces hadn’t been so serious, she would have laughed at the nine-year-olds statement. Instead, she shook her head. She couldn’t entertain this horrible matchmaking scheme. “No.”

Melissa spoke next. “Ms. Hennings, our father is a good man.”

Chante held her hands up in a non-threatening manner. “I don’t doubt that at all, but we have to be reasonable here. My dating your father would put all of us in an uncomfortable situation.”

“No more than we already are.” Melanie replied.

She was speechless for just a moment. How in the world did Maxwell survive these three?

“Does your father know that you are here?”

Melissa nodded in the direction of her front door. “He’s outside waiting for us.”

Chante went to the window and pulled the curtains aside. Her eyes met Max’s head on. The man had the nerve to wink at her, and the simple gesture sent her heart rate soaring.

Letting the curtain fall back in place, she shook her head again. She’d been so shocked by the three of them being on her porch that she hadn’t noticed the SUV sitting in the driveway next to hers.

“Excuse me, ladies.”

She crossed to the front door and walked out to the vehicle that Maxwell was sitting comfortably in. His eyes followed her all the way to the SUV. The window was rolled down, and she leaned into the car with more confidence than she really felt.

“Now you didn’t really think that I was going to let you sit out here and relax while your daughters have me in the hot seat did you?”

He grinned, and time stood still. His smile was lethal. “Well, they seemed so determined I didn’t think that it would take long, so I wasn’t sure that I needed to come in.”

She tried to keep a straight face at his lousy excuse as she stepped back and opened the driver’s side door. “Well, let me make it clear.”

He chuckled as he slid out of the vehicle. She tilted her head back to look at him. Lord, he was tall. Unfortunately, the man was gorgeous as well, and that was going to make this situation tough.

“Ladies first.”

She led the way back up to the house. When they returned to the living room, Melissa, Melanie, and Meghan hadn’t moved. Maxwell walked over to the recliner and took a seat while Chante continued standing, facing the girls. “Now you were saying?”

“That you should go out with our dad,” Melissa responded quickly, picking up right where she’d left off.

Chante sighed. If she didn’t know any better she would say that the three sisters had taken lessons from Chantel, Cheree, and herself.

“We trust you.”

Chante looked over at Melanie. These three had put their heads together. Either they loved their dad a lot and wanted to see him happy or they needed someone to distract him so that they could pull more antics like this. Although, it looked like they had too much time on their hands already if they had come up with a plan as insane as the one that they were trying to sell. Based on what she knew about Melissa, she was going to go with the first idea. As flattering as it was that she was the chosen one, it was also an impossible situation.

“So what do you think that people will say about me dating my student’s father?”

Melanie grinned. “From the way that Melissa talks about you, I have a feeling that you don’t care what other people say about you.”

Chante looked over at Maxwell who was sitting with a smug look on his face. If she didn’t know any better, she would say that he was enjoying this, especially since he was not on the receiving end of it for a change.

“Are you going to say anything?” Chante asked, arching a dark brow in his direction.

Max smiled and shook his head. “I already lost this battle earlier. I don’t plan on losing another. Besides, I agree with them and would love to take you out.”

His statement confirmed her earlier thought and floored her at the same time. Chante’s mouth dropped open and almost dragged on the ground. She could see that it was four against one at this point.

“See, there you go. Dad is a good man, and you are a good woman. This is a perfect combination.”

Gerry smiled after her, placing the bottle of Digitalis capsules on the counter as he marveled about how his life had changed. A little over a year ago, his life had seemingly been in ruins. He’d been a brilliant cardiac surgeon, but atrial fibrillation had ended his career. The rapid heartbeat came upon him too suddenly and without warning. He had to abandon the career he’d loved and practiced for over twenty years, retiring to the home his grandparents had lived in before their untimely deaths in a car accident some years ago. Not that life had ever been easy for him. Shrapnel from a sniper’s bullet in Vietnam had left him with a limp that made walking difficult, and Gerry had never been an athletic kid. Grade school as well as high school had been nightmarish with the constant taunting, but Gerry’s brilliance had proven his salvation. He’d won scholarships to Harvard and then Johns Hopkins after serving with distinction in the military as a medic. He was a self-made man, and his working-class parents had been fiercely proud of their son.

Gerry had returned home to New Orleans and begun his practice after obtaining his degree. Relationships didn’t come easy to him, and he’d had actively to pursue those women who had become his bed partners. After the war, many couldn’t look past his injury, but some saw beyond his handicap and loved his brilliance, especially when he was in medical school. He also had a thriving practice and was generous with those he loved. He’d early learned that such traits could buy him company, however briefly.

“Hey baby, what’s your story?” A tired line, but this time delivered in a graveled voice full of sin-filled nuances guaranteed to make an angel weep. Luckily, Jade Savini wasn’t an angel. Her days of innocence were long behind and far away.

Warm green eyes, the same earthy tone as her name suggested, perused the rugged form of the middle-aged warrior hunched on a stool at her bar. He looked rough and ready for anything and her hormones quirked a brow of interest before she slammed the door on that line of indecent thought.

“Slim, I don’t got a story, I’m the bartender. You’re supposed to tell me yours over your glass of Guinness and that’s that.” She played her voice low and casual, modulating the normal sound to make it fit better with the dark atmosphere of the bar. She’d been cursed with a perky, cheery voice at odds with her personality and lifestyle. Something about her voice, however, caught the warrior’s attention, adding a glint to his eye.

Beth Barnes poured the ice tea mix into the glass pitcher without taking her eyes off the muscular young white man mowing her backyard, right outside her window. His broad shoulders and hard abs peeked out of the sleeveless muscle shirt and glistened with sweat in the hot sun. Tall, lean, hard and agile, Grant had earned a football scholarship to Kansas University, but he was still out there sweating over her yard as he’d done every summer since Beth’s worthless ex-husband had run out on her three years ago.

She set down the measuring cup, and felt around the counter for the long wooden spoon. Lucky, her basset hound, sniffed at her light brown ankle, but Beth didn’t have eyes for him either.

Outside, Grant maneuvered the lawnmower around Beth’s elm tree. He had a mighty fine ass to go with those hard, muscular legs. His forearms flexed powerfully as he pushed the mower. And his hands—

Well, his hands had to be strong and capable, didn’t they? He was a quarterback after all. He made his living, so to speak, with his hands.

Beth sloshed the spoon around in the pitcher to dissolve the ice tea mix. Grant would be finished soon. She wondered if he’d be in a hurry this time. The last three weeks he’d seemed more than happy to stay and talk in her cool air-conditioned kitchen while they shared a glass of ice tea or lemonade after he’d finished with her lawn. It was tempting to read more into that than she should. Grant had always been a polite young man and she was, after all, old enough to be his mother. And what young man didn’t want to talk about his plans for the future? She was probably reading too much into what were doubtless innocent looks, but what if she weren’t imagining things? It had been an awfully long time since Carl had left and their sex life had been practically non-existent for years before that.

A little after midnight Mitch caught Kit’s attention and slipped away from the party. They walked together to the edge of the deck and leaned on the railing looking out over the dark rolling water.”

"What's on your mind?” Kit asked.

“Nothing, I just wanted a bit of fresh air and a break from all of the dancing.”

Kit raised an eyebrow making Mitch suppress a laugh.  His situation really wasn't funny.

He took a swig of his bourbon and leaned out over the rail. “Damn it, Kit, what am I going to do? She keeps dancing with Beckworth and I'm feeling jealous.”

Kit spread his hands in a gesture of helplessness. “What do you want me to say?”

“I want you to tell me what to do,” Mitch repeated.

“I can't do that,” Kit said.

     “Why not?”

“Because I really am your friend.”

Mitch thought about that for a few moments. “Yes, you are, but that doesn't help me figure out how to handle this.”

Kit didn't answer and the silence stretched out between them while the band continued to play in the lounge behind them.

“She’s sweet, she’s attractive, she’s got great taste in music, and she dances divinely,” Mitch complained.

     Kit maintained his silence.

     Mitch straightened up.

“Are we going back inside?” Kit asked.

“No,” Mitch answered. “I need to think and I'm pretty sure I heard someone say there's a piano lounge two decks down.”

He stepped away from the railing just as a heavy deck chair came crashing down into the place he had just been standing.

Both Mitch and Kit whirled about in time to see the chair ricochet off the railing and out over the ocean.

“LT. McCoy! You got mail!”

First Lieutenant Jon McCoy looked up from where he sat cleaning his weapon. “What?”

Private First Class Williams, standing in the doorway to his quarters, tossed him an envelope. “Looks like it’s from your wife.”

Frowning, he caught the legal size envelope. “Thanks,” he said absently.

The letter was from Evie. She hadn’t said anything about sending him one when she emailed yesterday. A feeling of dread pooled in his gut. What was so important for her to say that she couldn’t tell him when they’d Skyped?

He put his weapon back together and wiped his hand on a hand towel to rid it of gun oil, all the while staring at his wife’s handwriting. Lots of relationships fail while soldiers were on deployment. The separation was tough and lately he’d been getting the feeling that Evie…

No, better not go there. Read the letter, see what she has to say, and then I’ll know how to handle it. I hope.

Getting comfortable on the bunk, he used his thumb to unseal the envelope and pulled out a plain sheet of notebook paper.

“The only surefire way to keep someone of my species from being able to…take advantage of me is to be with a human man. Humans repel men from our planet and they can’t perform with us while we are with a human.”

In spite of his discomfort, he burst out laughing. The story was too ridiculous. “So having sex with a human man will save you,” he said, aware that he sounded amused.

“I was sent here for a reason. My mother sent that message to me. You are the right human to help me and I can heal you.”

“Heal me.” He smiled. “Listen beautiful, I won’t get involved with another woman for a long time. And much as I appreciate your offer to heal me,” he said, the mental pictures of that driving him crazy as he thought of her soft lips wrapped around his dick, “It’s not necessary. I’m fine. Sorry.” As he watched her pout and swallowed a groan. Why him? Why tonight?

“But we need each other. I know you can feel it, Chad,” she said persuasively, and her dark eyes glistening with tears that drew him in. He was about to just quickly escort her to his guest room, when she deliberately struck a sexy pose, tossing her hear, thrusting her chest out. He couldn’t breathe as he watched her smooth, dark skin that glistened, highlighting her plump tits, generous hips and long, long legs. Her legs seemed to go on forever. He gulped.  Frozen, he lifted his gaze to meet hers again feeling an attraction he didn’t want to fight as she drew him forward in an almost mystical way. He thought he saw stars circling around her head, but knew that was impossible. He had to be drunker than hell. It seemed that beams of light from her eyes would not let him go and her exotic scent intoxicated him. “No,” he managed to choke out as he stood before her. “I shouldn’t.”

She lifted her lovely red lips, batting her eyes. “Yes. You should.”

“Oh, damn, common sense!” Against his will…at least, it was certainly against his better judgment, he stepped up to her, wrapped his arms around her soft, damp skin and pulled her into his hard body, his cock throbbing madly. “I’ve lost my mind to your beauty,” he mumbled, agonized, just before he kissed her.

“We were so pleased you could make it, Miss Collins.” Victoria replied for them both. She was smiling warmly at Annabelle and Colin felt his teeth clenching again at the light in Victoria’s eyes.
“I heard that my friend managed to give you a small amount of assistance that night, Miss Collins. I hope you are feeling well this evening?” John dropped his voice to make sure that no other person on the balcony could hear him.

Annabelle blushed deeply but instead of avoiding the topic, her gaze held firmly to John’s face and her eyes flashed with something strange.

“He did indeed sir,” Annabelle rushed in before Colin could say anything, lifting her chin a fraction.
“Although, it was no small thing. Without Colin there that night, I’m afraid I would have been packed and on my way back to Somerset today from the horror of it all.” Annabelle lifted her chin again in a defiant manner and Colin could do nothing but stare at her. She was not afraid to thank him publicly for his rescue and she was so incredible when she was defending him.

“Colin?” John asked, one eyebrow raised in the air at his friend. Colin silently cursed, he never had given Annabelle his surname and she certainly did not know his title. Trust John to notice the use of his given name.  They both knew that most people called him ‘His Grace’. No one except his mother and a few select friends called him Colin.

“Oh, I’m so sorry.” Annabelle soon realized her error, turned to Colin and lay a hand on his arm in an intimate gesture that neither Victoria or John missed. Colin grimaced, he had known he was going to regret joining her on the balcony.

“I do not know what else to refer to you as.” Annabelle turned wide eyes to him.

Victoria and John both burst out laughing.

Annabelle looked back at them quickly, startled.

Colin glared at them, they must have thought it an amazing joke. They had found the only woman in London who did not know every detail about him down to his shoe size.

“May I present His Grace, the Duke of Lincoln, Colin Lyre.” John announced to Annabelle with another bow and a great flourish of his right hand.

Annabelle pulled back her hand from his jacket sleeve so quickly it was painful. She took a step back from him with a wounded look in her huge violet eyes.

“I thought...you said...ah... oh my,” Annabelle stuttered stumbling back towards the ballroom and without even a backwards glance, she picked up her skirts and ran from the balcony.

Hands jammed in his pockets, Madden simply glared up at her from the bottom of the stairs. Celena felt her stomach twist and burn, she wished she could dig out her bottle of stomach tonic and take a healthy swig, but as tired as she was it would knock her on her behind. The last time she had seen Madden she passed out at his feet, a repeat performance was not needed. In fact, the original performance had been utterly unnecessary.

He looked too good to stand there glaring. Too many days, nights and long boring afternoons in classes, boardrooms and laboratories, she had found her mind slipping back to his ready smile. By the look of the lines between his brows, he hadn’t smiled in a very long time. Swallowing back the tang of guilt, Celena moved away from Ashley to the top of the stairs, and whispered, “Madden?”

Moving incredibly fast, he ended on the step below her, Celena schooled herself not to flinch away.
Standing nearly nose-to-nose, she had forgotten how he wasn’t very tall, five-foot eight-inches to her diminutive five-foot two-inches. It never seemed to matter; Madden always seemed the biggest baddest guy around. That hadn’t changed. Her body ached to move that half-inch closer and lean against the heat of his body, but it wasn’t her right. Remember! Be in control of yourself, be confident!

Instead she caved. “I’m so sorry that you don’t smile anymore.” Without thinking, her thumb swept up and eased the tightly creased skin of his brow. “Your smiles were always home for me.” His hearing was keen, so she risked the whisper, knowing it reached only his ears. But she couldn’t help but startle when she felt his fingers ghosting along the back of her pleated skirt, up the backside of her thighs and around to rest a moment just above her wrist bones. The slide of his hands on the outside of her jacket was enough to raise goose flesh on the untouched skin of her arms. His T-shirt emphasized the heavy musculature of his arms and shoulders, a scant second before pulling her into the safety of his embrace as his fingers drug through her hair cupping her back.

“Don’t be sorry.” Madden bumped his nose softly against hers, nuzzling closer as his breath fanned across her cheek. Of all the stormy receptions she’d dreaded, being in his arms like this was more like a secret dream held in her heart. “Are you okay?”

“Uh huh.” Her mind stumbled along in a haze of warmth and her tongue went numb. It was amazing how fast buckets of intelligence went out the window from just being in his presence. Unbidden her hands cupped his face, fingers sliding into the thick hair she’d fantasized about since high school. Oh stars, her mind hazed over completely at the sleek silky feel of his hair.

Lips brushed past hers and she gasped, following his mouth, enrapt by his dark spicy scent flowing past her nose. A gentle pressure along her back and she sagged forward, forgetting to breathe as the long, hard length of him seared her from knees to breasts.

“Maybe they should get a room,” Ashley’s soft words jolted Celena and she jerked, sealing her mouth against Madden’s. His lips were firm and hot, drugging, as they closed on her own making her forget about the others, the stairs, or the cold. Her world narrowed to the taste of maple syrup on his lips as his tongue gently swept against her own. Her heart raced so hard and fast that the dark behind her eyelids spun crazily and for a giddy moment she couldn’t care less—if she died now it would be in joy. But as much as her heart rejoiced another part of her body woke and decided that more would be better before leaving good old terra firma.

“Red?” a strange female voice called from the doorway, and Celena pulled back, refusing to look away, hoping against hope as she stared into his burning gaze that the woman wasn’t a friend or worse, his wife. “Why don’t you bring your lady in out of the cold and introduce her to everyone. I’m sure we’d all like to meet her.” Madden shifted and dropped his arms to her waist pulling Celena even closer. Stars and stones, her eyes widened in astonishment, was that him digging into her belly?

He roughly cleared his throat. “Meet you guys inside in a few Lora, Celena and I need to talk.”

They had another fight about Mark’s camera at the breakfast table the next morning.

“You know the problem wasn’t only because we moved further down the couch,” Mark said.

“What?”

“Even before we moved,” Mark explained, “the camera was missing a lot of our action.”

April sighed and suppressed the desire to say something crude and emasculating.

Mark didn’t seem to notice her restraint. “You were doing some incredible things to my cock and the camera missed a lot of it. The same things happened when I mounted you from behind. You are beautiful and I know that scene was hot, but that doesn’t shine through the way I think it should have. I’m going to have to give this some thought.”

“Perhaps,” April chose her words very carefully. “You should think about giving up the camera or at least putting it away for a while.”

“What?” Mark asked. It was painfully obvious that this idea had never occurred to him.

“Look what’s happening to us, Mark. Two weeks without sex and then that debacle in bed last night.”

Mark spoke past a mouthful of Cheerios. “Those two weeks were your fault. I was trying to fuck you the entire time.”

April felt her temperature rising but she managed to keep control of herself. “I was eager to have sex too—just not in front of your camera. You weren’t willing to compromise on that.”

“And neither were you,” Mark reminded her.

 “Ari, are you awake?”

Ari’s eyes flashed open—not that that helped very much.

A blurry shadow beside her bed called to her again. “Ari?”

Ari groaned, recognizing the pleasant dream for what it was. She tried vainly to find a clock before she remembered she couldn’t read the numbers without her glasses. She flailed at the little table beside her bed but couldn’t feel the missing frame and lenses. She tried to sit up, but her useless legs frustrated her efforts.

“Here, let me help you,” the man said.

He clearly misunderstood her immediate priority because instead of handing Ari her wayward glasses he did something to the side of her bed. A motor hummed to life, lifting the mattress beneath her back and head and raising Ari to a sitting position. “Is that better?”

Ari finally pulled enough of her wits into wakefulness to identify the voice. “Arden?”

“Yes.”

“What are you doing here?”

“I …”

“Wait a minute! I need my glasses. I can’t see anything without them.”

Arden fumbled around on her nightstand until he found the desired object and placed them in Ari’s hand. She gratefully slid them into place so that the blurry shapes resolved themselves into dark shadows.

“Thank you,” she said. “That’s much better. Now what are you doing here?”

“I, um, didn’t want to sleep so I-”

“Wait a minute!” she told him. “What time is it anyway?”

Arden spoke about the same time that Ari found the clock. “About three o’clock in the morning.”

She shook her head. “This is unbelievable. Am I missing something or did we just meet this morning?”

Arden audibly swallowed. “I’m really sorry,” he repeated. “I’ll let you get back to sleep.”

“There’s no point in that now,” Ari told him. “I’m awake. Why don’t you turn the light on and pull up a chair?”

“Really?”

The young man fumbled around near the wall for a moment and then the light came on in Ari’s room. She blinked furiously for several seconds until her vision cleared. Arden had already picked up a chair and carried it over to her bed. He was wearing sweat pants with no shirt and his pale body was very lean. She couldn’t honestly call him muscular, but neither was he skinny. The affect was very pleasant on the eye.

~Excerpt~

The cab driver pulled up outside of Lisa’s home and John paid him, adding a thirty percent tip because of the nasty weather. Then he grabbed his briefcase and hurried through the snowstorm toward Lisa’s front door.

There were five or six inches of accumulation on the ground and John’s shiny black wingtips slipped and slid beneath him as he walked. Fortunately, he had left other shoes and clothes here over the past few months—something that Lisa had complained about at the time but finally accepted because it was so obviously practical. She still resisted any additional sign that they were settling in together. What was worse she continued to insist on all of these crazy sex games with other partners, and then got jealous when he participated with her.
He shook his head wondering what to do about all of this. He’d long ago admitted to himself that Lisa really was crazy in regard to relationships. So why was he still so infatuated with her? Why did the thought of her not being by his side twist his guts up inside? They had to figure out something better soon. What they were doing wasn’t working for him. And he didn’t really believe that it was working for Lisa either.
He stuck his key in the door—getting that key from Lisa had been a triumph on his part—and entered the house. “Lisa, honey, I’m…here.” He’d almost slipped and said home but that was certain to trigger a major bout of Lisa’s relationship claustrophobia.
He listened for a moment, but when she didn’t answer he finished closing and locking the door and stepped deeper inside the house. “Lisa?”
He set his briefcase down and shrugged out of his coat, brushing it off and folding it over his arm. “Honey?”
John stepped into the living room and found Lisa sleeping uncomfortably on the couch. The lower half of her body was nestled under a blanket. Her lap top computer had fallen to the side on the cushions on top of a pile of wadded up tissues.
She didn’t look good. There were dark bags under her eyes and her normal light brown skin tone looked off—almost gray for lack of a better word. And a trace of mucus leaking from her nose confirmed that she was getting sick as well. He’d warned her she’d been pushing herself too hard. How little sleep had she been getting with these seven day work weeks and twelve-hour-plus work days?
John draped his coat over a chair and quietly stepped closer to her. She was thinner also then she’d been when they started dating. Strange that he hadn’t noticed earlier. He was used to seeing her naked, after all, but it was obvious now in the touch of gauntness in her cheeks and the thinness of her bare arms. He had thought that she’d simply been losing her muscle tone from skipping too many nights at the gym, but seeing her here like this exhausted at the end of her long day, John could see the truth. Lisa wasn’t taking care of herself. She was pushing herself past the edge of endurance in her efforts to win her bonuses and it was costing her.
It was obvious looking at her that she couldn’t keep this pace up. At least, she couldn’t do it alone.
John took off his suit jacket, removed his tie and unbuttoned the collar of his shirt. Then he slipped off his wingtips to minimize any noise he might make and went off to get the comforter from Lisa’s bed. The house was quiet, empty, but it didn’t feel peaceful to him. Something was very wrong here. He obviously wasn’t the perfect patient boyfriend he liked to imagine himself to be. Lisa actually needed him and he hadn’t even noticed.
He returned with the comforter and carefully tucked it over and around the woman he loved.

SNOWBOUND CHRISTMAS CHEER by Veronica Tower

SNOWBOUND: CHRISTMAS CHEER by Veronica Tower

Snowbound Series #13

It's the day before Christmas Eve and the second big snowstorm of the year is rolling into Detroit. Huge fluffy flakes are already falling as Jo runs to the supermarket to grab some much needed supplies--eggnog, cookies, ice cream--emergency rations for the holiday season. The only thing she's lacking is someone to enjoy them with.
Then she sees A.J., the hot guy who almost picked her up at a party last Halloween. He's a tall, muscular, blue-eyed blond, with a smile that warmed Jo right down to her toes and he's just as determined as she is to snag that last bottle of eggnog off the shelves.
Should Jo be selfish and keep the drink all to herself, or let A.J. convince her to share some Snowbound Christmas Cheer?

Jo grabbed up a rectangular carrying basket and began weaving her way through the crowd. She found a seasonal tin of the thin white cookies with the sugar coating and stuck it in her basket with a guilty look to either side. As an oral hygienist she knew the dangers of sugar but it was also one of her biggest vices. And what was the use of a holiday like Christmas if you couldn’t let down your hair a little and indulge your vices?

As she made her way to the dairy section, she added large bags of M&Ms and Hershey kisses to her basket. She passed on the little box of mints but snagged the little container of brightly colored hard candy. Then forced herself to hurry on out of the aisle, past the meat and into the dairy section.

The eggnog was almost all gone!

Darting forward Jo snatched up the very last half-gallon container—or at least she tried to. The container didn’t find its way into her basket because some white guy had grabbed it at exactly the same time as she had. There was no way she was going to let him have it!

“Excuse me,” she said, keeping her voice prim, proper and completely uncompromising. “This is my bottle of eggnog.”

“How do you figure—Jo?”

For the first time, Jo looked up from the place where their hands were almost touching on the carton of eggnog to look at the man’s face. He was handsome with blond hair and blue eyes and she was certain she’d never seen him before in her life.

“Jo? It’s A.J.,” the man said. “You remember? I was dressed as Elvis. We met at The Church Key on Halloween. Remember?”

“A.J.?” Jo repeated. The transformation in the man was astounding! Halloween night he’d had jet black hair and while she’d known he had to have dyed it—brunettes do not have blue eyes—she couldn’t believe how different he looked. She’d thought he’d been handsome before, but now?

Leah rang Jaysen’s doorbell prepared to eat crow. She would never have thought he had been overweight. Even if he hadn’t been, she didn’t have the right to snap at him the way she did. He’d been nothing but nice to her.

Jaysen opened the door and smiled. “Hi, Leah. This is a change.”

She nodded and walked past him into the foyer. “I came over to apologize. I shouldn’t have snapped at you the way I did yesterday. I guess I’m on edge because I’m dieting and hungry all the time. It’s no excuse, but I really am sorry.”

“Don’t give it another thought,” he said shrugging.

“Thanks,” Leah said with a sigh of relief. “I’d better get going; you look like you were getting ready for work.”

Jaysen glanced down at his khaki pants, un-tucked white shirt and the blue and white striped tie draped over his shoulder.

Leah headed for the door.

“Wait!” he exclaimed grabbing her hand.

Leah gasped when he touched her. Goosebumps immediately rose on her arms and her stomach clenched.

She slowly turned to find Jaysen too far in her personal space. He’d stepped into her, so she had to look up to see his face. She couldn’t speak as she watched his golden eyes darken. He leaned down and kissed her.

Jaysen pulled Leah against him, just as he had the day before when they were in the pool. He coaxed her lips apart with his tongue. They delved into each other’s mouths between sighs and moans.

“Maybe I should make my way over to your side of the fence more often,” Leah joked as she tried to catch her breath.

“Maybe you should,” he said with a grin.
